On December 9th at 8 PM (ET), Ultimate Bet is offering a $215 entry, $100k guaranteed tournament. I just thought you'd all like to know, as they don't seem to advertise this anywhere but on their promotional page yet (http://www.ultimatebet.com/promotions/uboc.html?l=gameLR) , and this is an event you do -not- want a conflicting schedule with!

    Prof,

Thanks for the heads up on this event.

I kept looking and looking on Bet21.com to no avail. The interesting thing is that in the promo it says you can enter into the satellite events leading up to their main events but I checked and checked and there doesn't seem to be any feeder events listed - yet.

Another great example of the valuable use of this board. Hope to see you there on December 9th - what a great early Christmas present :D

I was expecting a bigger blurb for such a game....I guess to the poker crowd this is nothing special....

Anyone know about details such as minimum number ...max number of players? (Im guessing no max...)

Yes this would make a great Christmas present Mr Crachet!!!

It depends on whether your state has prohibited online gambling or not. In most states, the player is not breaking the law, but the casino is.

I live in PA....we dont even have regular gambling yet...althought they are looking for 15 honest men to operate slots ....haha cant seem to find any honest men as they are always arresting a board member for one thing or another...

I actually think online is ok here....

I dont really care....If I win the big one I can bail out ...heck I probably could bail out me and Dog the bounty hunter too!!!

I wrote to UB about satts...no reply yet...

Since UB/Bet21 are affiliated I wonder if Bet 21 is in on this game?

Joe you always seem to be in the know....this is a pretty big game....any news?

    Interest

Was there a minimum entry criteria? I've not looked at the detail of the tourney so I may be well off beam but to give away $100K for $215 pp would need 465 players to B/E. How many people have been signing up to $215 games in the past? Half that number? A quarter? I suspect that UB have decided to quitely swerve this tourney so as to avoid the embarassment of cancelling it on the night when there aren't enough entrants.

I personally think that EBJ needs a gradual build up to those sorts of MTT buy-ins. It needs to develop a following and online players who are generating a reasonable turnover playing it, as well as a much bigger player pool. As a comparison what %age of online poker players can afford to play in $200 buy-in games? 5%? 2%? 1%? And of those how many do at any one time? If those ratios carry over to EBJ then I believe the number of players who could afford a $200 would be about 200. Its just a guess I admit, but how many regular online EBJ players are there? A couple of thousand tops? In the early days of internet poker I don't recall there being that many $200 buy-ins for MTTs. I must emphasise, as if you didn't already know, that this is just specualtion on my part based on my expereince to date. If anybody has any hard numbers I'd like to hear them. I'm not knocking EBJ and these are just some ramblings...

    Cheers

    BJ players ignored

The whole purpose behind the tourney was a celebration of Phil Helmuth’s 10 WSOP bracelets. I’ll post the link if you’re interested in the details.

    http://www.ultimatebet.com/promotions/uboc.html?l=gameLR

Originally I didn’t believe that UB.com would have an EBJ event, however, with Phil on Team UBT and doing a lot of their commercials, it made some sense. Did they have to cancel it? This is how you create ill will.

I mean they didn’t have to make it a 100,000 event why not a $20,000 tourney or even $50,000. It was a perfect opportunity to have feeders, like the St. Kitts packages, etc.

Maybe I’m being too critical but when you announce something like that and then change it that sucks. I’m too tired to try the freerolls anymore because; well it’s frustrating to make it 2-3 rounds only to bust out before the final round.

As far as the entry fee – was it too high? Probably but if you want those big jackpots you gotta put up or shut up. I mean everyone talks about the 12 million WSOP first place but how many mention the 10,000.00 entry fee?

    I just don't get it

    Agreed

I agree that it sucks. Just taking a stab at why I think they pulled it and the underlying cause.

Feeders would be great. Were there any planned? It's a good way of swelling the prize pool.

I'm much more likely to play a MTT with a $50 buy-in as are a lot of other players I would guess. Why not aim a little lower and generate some momentum before going for these massive prizes? Don't try to run before you can walk I say.

And any TBJ tournamnet has a long, long way to go before it can claim to be equivalent to the WSOP. The WSOB is not it!

    Cheers

    Frustration building

It’s funny because I’ve had the opportunity to peruse the sister site to this one blackjackinfo.com and seen lots of posters over there never step a foot over here. I don’t get it.

I am AMAZED at the number of self-proclaimed “AP” on the boards – I certainly don’t see them when I’m playing at the B&M joints. Come to think of it I don’t see them on Bet21.com either.

Why? I don’t understand how people can be so “into” BJ and yet shun the BJ tourneys. My only conclusion is a complete lack of knowledge and understanding. While playing on playUBT.com I couldn’t help but feel appalled by the level of betting and playing. Then again the comments some of the players were making when the dealer would win 3 hands in a row – “this thing is rigged” or “you can’t win at this online stuff”. I mean it seemed like people actually thought they were entitled to win once in awhile and when they lost their max bet the “system” was out o get them.

Why do I bring this up? I think that the general gaming public needs to be better educated about TBJ. Now hear me out on this one. We had this discussion prior about what was more popular BJ vs. poker. We KNOW that the general public PLAYS tons of BJ – look at the number of tables in the B&M. So why are there not MORE tourneys?

My opinion on this is two-fold.
    1. The general public who plays BJ is self-delusional. They think their play is much better than it is and when they finally DO play TBJ and find out how “bad” they are they get embarrassed and don’t do it
    2. The casinos rake in so much money with conventional BJ players that holding BJ tourneys is actually a money losing venture.

I could be wrong, have known to be in the past and will admit to being wrong in the future. I just can’t fathom any other explanations of why tourney BJ isn’t more popular. Any other thoughts about this?

Considered the "real" main event at this years WSOP with a $50K buy-in it incorporates 5 different poker varients 8 hands at a time. Holdem, Omaha, Razz, Stud & Eight or Better(Stud Hi-Lo) are the games played and the winner this year was a veteran, Chip Reese, considered by most to be the "real" WSOP champion.

    Let's talk

I don't spend that much time looking at the posts in the "On-line Casinos" since I never play on-line. However, this question interested me but I'm not sure if you are referring to BJ tournaments at B&M casinos or on-line tournaments. If it's on-line, I have no opinion since, like I said, I don't play on-line. If it's B&M casinos you are referring to then I think we can get a more lively discussion if you post this question as a new thread in the "land based casinos" category.

All the APs over at BJI.com are in prison! Actually that's a lie, only one of them is inside as far as I know, zengrifter. You should read his story, very interesting.

My 2 pence. BJ and TBJ are two completely different animals. I don't necessarily think that AP BJers are necessarily going to take to the tournament style. The only thing that the 2 games have common is the "game". The strategy, tactics, attitude and almost everything else is different. I think we'll see more divergence over the next few months and years especially in respect of basic strategy. Pretty soon I believe the use of BS in tourneys will be almost non-existent and a whole range of TBSs will emerge.

Using a poker analogy, some poker players are good at cash games and not so good at tournaments, and vice versa. They too are different animals.

Another analogy would be the assumption that people who are good at soccer (I hate that word, its FOOTBALL!!!!) would be good at American Football (Grrrrrrrr!) simply because they both involve the use of a ball and in both games you have to get the ball into an area at the end of your oppositions half.

    Cheers
