Does anyone have the rules format for the old Bally's tournament which is going to be used for the Sheraton?

Here is what I found from the event listing for Bally's in 2004, which I assume is how it was always played:

    Bally's Tunica - Robinsonville MS
    Date:

    9/24/2004 to 9/26/2004
    Details:

    Entry Fee: $500.00 USD
Bankroll: $1,000.00 each round. (Non-Negotiable chips)
    Hybrid format.
    Phone: 800-382-2559 ext 1511

Entry includes two-night hotel stay, tournament gift, free
breakfasts, and private banquet. Registration 4-7PM
Friday. Round 1 & 2 on Saturday. Semifinals and finals on
    Sunday.

The format is a hybrid, with 2 non-elim rounds, followed by
a table-advance format in the semifinals.

    Prizes:

    Total Prize Pool: $150,000
    1st=$60,000 (Guaranteed)

Prizes based on 250 entries. At past events, the prize
pool has always included $25K added by the casino.
Four free entries into next event are drawn at the awards
    ceremony.

How many hands are played? Does anyone have the cutoff history that they can share? I seem to remember that the betting limits were such that a lot of people put it all in on the first hand and that is all they played....

    What I remember,

Pat I think $5,650 was the biggest cut off point I remember hearing for the old Bally's tournament. I would double check with Ken and some others to make sure, but that was the bigest I know of.

I think the norm was between $4,800 and $5,300 before that.

    Cutoff

Thanks Rick. I think that sounds about right, but I couldn't find a number using search. It might be nice if someone would update the event calendar for tournament history after the finish to add comments like number of players and cutoffs. That would help future participants.

Does anyone know what the betting limits and number of hands played are?

    Strategy

If the cutoff is truly around $5000, then all you need is to win five max bet hands out of 25 played. It seems like the best strategy would be to play moderately and try to accumulate some cushion in say 10 -15 hands and then turn on the burners to see if you can reach your target. If you could get to around $1500 by hand 10 and try for $3000 by hand 20, that should put you in good position to reach $5000 by hand 25. Doesn't blackjack pay 2:1? Just one or two on max bets would put you there too.

Seems like this would be a safer strategy than going all in first hand.

    Any thoughts?

See my post to the Tournament Schedule Section for the Sheraton. I talked with the tournament manager to get that info.
