As I posted on another thread, a local night club in Dallas, TX is going to start hosting "Free" blackjack tournaments next Wednesday night.

The club (which I couldn't name until today due to their Radio commitments) is:

    The Silver City Cabaret
    7501 N Stemmons Fwy.
    Dallas, Texas

I went over last night to play in the finals of their Texas Hold'em tournament and it was fun until I lost anyway...LOL. last night they gave away $1,500 cash + airfare to Las Vegas.

When you come bring your glasses and a flashlight, it is really hard to see the cards(they keep it to dark in there).

Poker is one thing, but playing tournament BJ is another and as dark as it is the players might as well forget about trying to count anybody else's chips.

But the good thing is it is all free, no cover, no entry, no drink minimum, you pay for nothing unless you order it, you can't beat that EV...LOL.

They will be using a standard elimination style format, playing 40 hands, and the deal will be rotated.
They will be offering 6 tables, 7 players per table, and only one winner per table (who will all advance to the finals in about 7 weeks).

I don't know how much the starting bankrolls will be or the rules (and won't until next Wednesday at the tournament). Also I believe they will be awarding a trip for two on the blackjack cruise or the cash value whichever the winner chooses.

All I can hope is that they play blackjack as bad as they play poker...LOL.

Come early if you want to play...

Silver City will start signing up players at 6:00 pm on Wednesday. There will only be 42 seats for these tournaments (6 tables with 7 players at each).

Just tell them at the door you are here for the Blackjack tournaments and their will be no cover charge.

No entry required, no re-buy's allowed.

Only one winner from each table, they qualify for the finals.

Only one round with one session played each Wednesday night.

*NOTE: I am not sure how they will select players, it maybe first come first serve, but they may select players by drawing names (raffle style).

For the poker events they were drawing around 70 players each week.

What time will they start playing??

You mentioned that sign in started @ 6:00pm, but what time will they actually start playing. Spending too much time @ a place like that can cause pain in the pocketbook.

Next week changed, to next week!

I was told orignally that the Sliver City blackjack tournaments would start this Wednesday.... WRONG!

I was just informed that it is next Wednesday, March 7th, they will start the blackjack tournament.

They are taking a week off after the poker finals last Wednesday.

Guess I'll see y'all next Wednesday night.

    Tournament set for tonight...

From what I am hearing they may still be offering the $2,700.00 entry for the Palms UBT event in April + airfare.

This is great, because that means more money to be won....YEA!

They will be hosting qualifiers for the next six weeks and then the finals on the 7th week sometime in April. By that time airfare will be about $600 + for the Palms tournament.

Now they won't be using the UBT EBJ format, (they are using a basic elimination format, 6 tables of 7 players, 40 hands, only the table winner advances to the finals).

MMMmmmm lets see thats over $3,300.00 for first place and all free to play, not a bad EV at all.

Guess I'll see a few of you at Silver City tonight.

Hard to complain when it is free...lol

Well I played the tournament tonight and to say the rules are a little lacking is an understatement, but it was free so it was worth every penny...LOL.

Actually it wasn't that bad, they held it in their VIP room so it was quite, and ladies there were no dancers in that room so you'll like that.

They offered 6 tables, with up to 7 players on each table. The bank roll was $1,000 and betting limits were $25 to $1,000, they paid double on BJ's and each round consist of 40 hands.

Tonight being the first time they offered BJ, there were a few bug's, but they were very willing to listen and except help.

The biggest issue I pointed out was how they were going to award the $2,700 Palms UBT entry into the April event when their finals were scheduled after the Palms event starts...LOL.

Just little details like this they needed to workout...LOL

But once again they were very nice and everybody seemed to have fun (which is what these tournaments are all about).

Tonight I needed all 40 hands to win (or I should say advance to the finals). We only had 4 players at all the tables tonight, the three guys at my table all came out firing big while I played my $25. Well the dealer busted 17 out of the first 25 hands, so you can guess how good of shape I was in...LOL

But I never gave up and watch all 3 give the table to me, by betting big every hand (in some cases DD or spliting when they shouldn't) for the last 15 hands (even with over a seven max, bet lead on me).

By the 36 hand I had the lead and only one other player left besides me on our table. I guess by know you realized the players are pretty weak (mostly poker players, with no clue about BJ).

Any way Silver City will be hosting these qualifiers every Wednesday night for the next 5 weeks at 7:00 pm with the finals scheduled for April 18th.

The entry and cover is all free, so come on over.

PS. If you win and come back and play and you should win again, you get an extra $200 for every additional win you have in the finals. Nice little bonus.

As far as the prize it is looking like they will just offer around $3,300 to $4,000 dollars cash.

    I forgot to tell you...

I did forget to say one thing about tonights tournament, the dealers tend to help out the players, A LOT!

I was glad Swog didn't come tonight, he may have had a heart attack...LOL.

You have to remember this is just a way of drawing customers into the club it isn't a real BJ tournament as we are use to playing in. The dealers ask players if they want to DD after they just called for a hit, they ask the players if they really want to hit their hard 14 vs dealers 5, and they have a rule if the dealer starts dealing before your bet is placed you can only bet $25 max. for that hand.

Now Swog, bite your tongue next week when you come over and remember it is all free, and by the way, the promotion for next week is free Hienken give-a-way, I know you'll like that...LOL

    WOW, nice EV!!!

Last night the tournament only had 14 players (2 tables of 7). They advanced the top two players from each table to the finals on April 18th.

If you live close enough to drive 2 hours or so, I suggest you come by on Wednesday night for this free event. No cover, free to play and you have a shot at about $4,000 in prize money, ("Winner take all").

    To good to be ture...

Last night Swog and I went over to play the UBT qualifier only to find it has been canceled!!!!! I also had two friends (pit bosses from the Choctaw casino in Durant, OK) come down for the tournament.

I am not 100%, but I am pretty sure the club still has to honor what was advertised as the prize or they get a large fine from the Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission (TABC).

From what I heard they are talking about bringing poker back instead, the problem I have is I went to the club and qualified playing blackjack and that is what the prize is offered for, not poker.

I'll up date you on what happens in this situation.

Oh come on. It's a free tournament, and apparently blackjack didn't draw nearly as well as poker was already, and now you want to bust their chops over this? Be glad they gave it a try. If the patrons weren't interested enough in blackjack to sustain the tournaments, you can't blame the business for trying.

    I'm not busting their chops...

I am glad they tried to host the events, I was just told that they are going to honor what was advertised and should be trying to start either the blackjack, poker, or even some other type of event soon.

My point was if they advertise the prize for an event it has to be given away once they started hosting the events and had winners that have qualified.

As far as the blackjack events not bringing in as many players, that was because the club stopped advertising on the radio (where they did for the poker events).

My TABC comment was just to let the players know there will still be a prize for all those who have already qualified, (several players were asking about that). The club would rather pay for a prize than a fine that would cost them more. I wasn't busting their chops.

Got it. Yes, they should award promised prizes.
