For a free entry in this tournament you need to get a suited blackjack which I believe happens about 1 out of 100 hands. Does anyone know for sure, at what point does qualifing for this tourny end? That is, can one still get a free entry by getting a suited blackjack on 5/25 or even the morning of 5/26 before the tourney starts?

Also, does anybody know the rules of their live games and are they 6 deck shoes?

I might be out in Vegas that weekend and would possibly extend my stay to play in it if possible to still qualify.

Who else from here will be playing in it?

    Thanks in Advance,
    Dan

Getting in HLV Suited BJ Tourn

Several of us on this site will be there. BJbeauty, Themom, and a host of others who post on this site plan on being in the tournament. In the past, you could qualify up to the last moment - but you need to check with the Tournament director to make sure.

Good luck, if you get in.

    Check with Les...

Dan contact casino host Les Thacker at the Las Vegas Hilton, if anyone can still get you in it will be Les. You'll still need to win your suited BJ to earn free entry for this event.

    Good luck!

Good advice from Tex about Les Thacker. I think you'll find Les to be helpful and nice as he's always been with me.
Others here can tell you more about open BJ there than I can but I think they offer both 6 deck shoes and 2 deck pitch. Penetration poor from my experience (might be a tourney time thing)
Not a good place to play VP even tho they have lots of 9-6 "full pay" because card cash back is almost nothing!
Good luck, if you play it!

    Dan,

I have seen people get their suited BJ (with a $10 minimum bet) during the same day as registration (in this case Monday, 5/26/08) and then register during their normal registration time of 2pm to 7pm. Not sure if you can do a last minute registration during the morning of first round. This of course assumes they are not full. They have capacity for 1,000 players but normally have 750 - 800. If you need a room, they normally give the rooms for $55 per night for the tournament players. However, qualifying at the last minute may not allow for the reduced rate.

The tournament is not completely "free". They offer a Mulligan (see calendar posting for details) which costs $100 but you can turn that down. However, the Mulligan gives you an edge that most seasoned players recognize and therefore buy the Mulligan.

The odds of getting a suited BJ are about 1 in 84. However, in the past, it has taken me up to 3 hours - just never know. The fastest way (but worst EV) is to play the Continuous Shuffle Machines with as few players at the table as possible. These tables attract a lot of ploppies so if you have a full table, the game moves slowly.

Their live BJ games are standard "strip" rules - Hit Soft 17. Not sure if they are 6 or 8 deck shoes. Double deck games do not allow Double Downs after a split. And as Billy C said, penetration is poor be it shoe or pitch.

You will find a lot of players there from this site so you'll have plenty of company - as long as they can identify you with your "signature hat" :D . Good luck if you attend.
