The Pioneer Hotel and Gambling Hall in Laughlin, NV is stepping it up a notch for their semi-annual tourneys. June 11-13th are the dates. Based on 168 entries they will pay $100,000 out, used to be $25k/108 entries. Entry $500, rebuys $200. First place $50k Second- $18,500 Third-$9000 payed down to the 48 semi-finalists. I don't have an official flyer yet. But, included are two nights lodging and meals. There is supposed to be a Friday dinner and a Sunday morning awards banquet in Granny's (the dinner house). You get some flexible coupons for Saturday for the buffet/coffee shop. This food is for two people. Based on past tourneys the format is one advances per table. Three qualifying rounds in the morning and three re-buy rounds in the afternoon. Late Saturday afternoon semis and finals. Funny money was used. The semi-finalists used to get the initial fee back. So it looks like 8 tables x 7 x3=168. With 48 semi-finalists it looks like one advances to a table of seven. The game has traditionally been single deck, double any two, no DAS. But the Pioneer has changed their regular games recently. Double only 10,11 on single deck and some shoes have shown up on some tables, so... Contact info is on the website. E-mails have historically been answered in a timely manner. ***** So if they sell out all entries and rebuys they collect $117,600. That would be $105 per participant for room and food for two. ***** So what other tourneys are happening in June? -jacks

Lurker no more... Faye, Thanks for coming out of lurker status to fill-in some of the details. So, you going to be a participant or are you affliliated with the Pioneer? The River Room is supposed to be in a transformation right now into a poker room, right? I did an invite 3-card tourney in it, what 1 1/2 years ago. The format is a bit goofy, don't you think? Fortyeight could have been reduced to 24, and then to six. -jacks (a Pioneer "cowpoke" since '95)

Lurker? I'm not affliated with Pioneer, just a player from Las Vegas. Played the last three times - second place - then first in December - and not on final table in the last one. I know all the information because I called Matt Hawks and got it first hand from him. The prizes listed for first through eighth place jumped out as strange - I wanted to know if that meant eight on final table which would really be stupid. Matt came from somewhere in the midwest and he seems to be taking suggestions but only using a few. i.e. change to 21 hands (someone told him that it would be more fair with 7 on table!) and throwing in an extra round (don't know reason for this decision) - not changing 2/1 blackjack, while only allowing double down on 10 or 11. The higher prize format seems good, but he has a lot of work to do to make it right. Planning the Granny's buffet at same time of play needs correcting, as we all know, Granny's is the highlight of going. I'm too busy working 40 hours per week and playing tournaments (1st at Imperial Palace 4/11/04) to be on the message forum all the time.... so I'll probably go back to lurking in the shadows. Faye
Imperial Palace Thanks 'Kevin' ...... Was a good come from behind win.... I was all in with $450 & doubled ten against the dealers King - this was last hand of forty minutes before the count. I then had $1800 at the count which only put me at BR4 out of 5 players left. I ended up with $3275, with nearest competitor at $2500. Only other familiar face at final table was John Stancel (fourth) Faye
