A few more details are available now concerning the next season of GSN's World Series of Blackjack. Many of you have already noticed that casinos around the country are hosting satellite events for WSOB 2006, and that list will apparently continue to grow. As for the final televised event, there will be 40 players competing for $1 million in prizes. The overall winner will take home $500,000, but he or she will have also won around $50K to get to that point. Winners of each of the 8 preliminary rounds will take home $25,000, and participants are guaranteed $1000 (up from $500 last year). The location for the filming has not yet been announced. The dates are said to be in February or early March 2006. Here are some of the casinos that have confirmed satellites: Pearl River Resort, Philadelphia MS Ho Chunk, Baraboo WI Lucky Eagle, Rochester WA Foxwoods, Mashantucket CT (invite-only) Cherokee Casino, Catoosa OK Thunder Valley, Lincoln CA Some of the 40 final event seats are still available for casinos to purchase, so you might want to encourage your local casino to look into hosting a satellite. It's up to each casino to decide how they structure the satellite events, and it is apparent that some of the host casinos have decided to make these events a profit center for themselves. The one thing to keep in mind when evaluating equity in these events is that there may be value of the TV exposure that goes above and beyond the $25,000-per-seat par value. If WSOB and UBT players develop a following, sponsorship deals like those currently available to top-tier poker players may be a real possibility. In any event, you now have at least a little more information for deciding how aggressively you want to pursue winning yourself a seat.
Wsob Question to Ken! With satallite tournaments being scheduled, I would like to know if all 40 seats are equally up for grabs, or are some players being selected because they appeared before? This goes to assessing the par value of a seat. Another question is what's the matter with L.V.? 984 casinos (about?) and no satallites! Norm21
Cost for satellites Norm, GSN is charging for the satellites. It is my guess that the Vegas casinos feel they don't have to pony up any fee to get the business. I still believe that the finals will be held in Las Vegas, I hope so anyway.
Wsob Hey, TXtourplayer! Maybe you know the GSN fee for a spot in the tournament. Is it $25,000 for a satellite? If so, can a person buy his own spot for $25,000?
I don't know for sure about invites. Previously I was told there would be "very few" spots given via invitation. I take that to mean 5 or 6 at the most, and quite possibly fewer than that. If I were GSN, I'd probably make sure that champ #1 and champ #2 came back for year 3. That's as much as I'm willing to speculate.
Wsop Hmmmmmmmm........ I have to ask myself! Would anyone pay $25,000 for a seat, when 6 seats are given free? Maybe I will hang on to my cash, and look for a $300 entry! But I can tell you one thing for certain..................... _________________________ "You've gotta love this game!"
Wsob After A Few Setbacks I Have Finally Entered Tournament At Pearl River Resort Need Two Wins To Win Seat In Wsob Looking Forward To Playing. :d
New poster. First time poster here, and I would love if anyone had some information about the 2006 WSOBJ qualifier taking place at Thunder Vallery Resort. Ive tried to find info online and through the phone, but havent gotten anywhere. Anyone with any info, I would greatly appreciate it. Canada
Welcome Specifi informaton for this casino (Thunder Valley, Lincoln CA) has yet to be released. In fact, I've to to see concrete evidence showing exact qualifiying dates. With this said, WSOB will be happing in Vegas next year. Your best bet is to check this site weekly. Once the WSOB dates are released, trust me, people will talk. Should WSOB have a web site? Yes in my view. Sidekick
I believe I believe that it is "The World Blackjack Tour" that is hosting all the satellite tournaments that are offering a seat in next years WSOB III. Both are part of GSN. For updates I suggest going to the GSN web site and asking them on their forum about the tournaments. By showing GSN that people are interested will be better for all of us. Don't get me wrong as soon as the word is out Ken will post it here on this site also.
Ho-chunk - Wsob nussr63: I just made some minor clearifications to the calander for the HO-CHUNK event. Didn't change your basic additions. Where did you get this info? It's good they added prize money for 8th - 42nd place. This means that anyone getting past the 1st round is guaranteeded to at least get their entry fee back! Sweet! This definitely improves the equity. From what I've seen posted on other casinos, it looks like the HO-CHUNK is the best place to try for a WSOB seat so far. Maybe they read this site. Could it be the reason for the change?
Or maybe... Or lack of interest before they raised the prize pool up. They have $50,000 invested and I am sure they are wanting to get that investment back. One day the casinos may fiqure out that cheap is not the best way to make money in the long run.
Now THIS is a good deal. If the events fill up, that means all 126 seats pay $400 each. That's $50,400 taken in. The payout is $53,000 when you value the WSOB seat just at the $25,000 raw value. If they don't fill up and some seats are rebuys, the equity is even higher. Kudos to Ho-Chunk. I may have to check airfares for these. Let's see if we can't get three BJTers into the WSOB from this.
Now that's more like it! I'll be in one of the Ho-Chunk ones for sure (the second one.) I'd be in all three but two of them conflict with my work schedule. We should set up some kind of members' party after the tournament. I know of a couple good places to go in that area. Be sure to bring your winter jackets!
HO-CHUNK - poor air transportation The HO-CHUNK has poor access to major airports. Anyone planning to fly in will probably have to rent a car. Can't give specifics since I am not local - I have a 3 hour 15 minute drive to get there. Also, as for clothing, yes you'll need a really really heavy coat, snow shoes, and a hat with industrial grade ear muffs!
Madison Madison is the closest place to fly into. You'd need to rent a car. It's almost an hour north of Madison. I've never flown into Madison, so I don't know how convenient or cheap it is. If you fly into Milwaukee it's about a two hour drive to Ho Chunk from the airport. We'll probably spend Friday night there at Ho Chunk, leaving the Milwaukee area late Friday afternoon and returning Saturday night. We'll have room to carpool two people if you fly into Milwaukee Friday afternoon (on the 20th.) In addition to the industrial grade ear muffs you'll need to wear a cheesehead!
