Did anyone else notice the Pechanga event update?
They had a slight increase in their entry fees.

STRIKE IT RICH! $1,000,000 Blackjack Tournament

    Pechanga Casino - Temecula CA

    Date:
Weekly on Wednesday, Saturdays , beginning 7/1/2006

    Details:
Entry Fee: $2,500.00 USD (Reentry $2,500.00)
Bankroll: $5,000.00 each round. (Non-Negotiable chips)
    Hybrid format.
    Phone: 888-732-4264

    Prizes:
    Total Prize Pool: $1,000,000 (Guaranteed)
    1st=$500,000 (Guaranteed)

Last week we wrote about their weekly tournament and the entry fee was only $120! Looks like they raised it just a touch...LOL

This new increase should really help bring up the low attendance they have been having...LOL

I have to believe the info is incorrect, but it was posted by the tournament director at Pechanga.

There was a buy in to the final for 2500. Im guessing it is the same, qualify in a weekly 120 per try up to 7 0r 8 per day or pay 2500 to walk in to final.

    Killing a tournament

    Barney-

Tex is merely relaying what Mayam Beltran, tournament director at Pechanga, posted himself on the "Recent Updates" here on this site. Reguardless whether this info is correct or not, I think Mr. Beltran just killed his tournament. May it rest in peace.

I think we have a case of poor calendar posting

Seems to me that the tournament director did a very poor job of posting information on the calendar. Not having any information of my own, it looks to me like Barney Stone is probably correct since I can't believe any casino would hold weekly tournaments with a $2,500 buy in AND WITHOUT HOTEL ROOMS.

Also, the calendar posting does not say when the finals would be held.

As a side note, the calendar says prize money is "guaranteed". If the entry free is indeed $2,500 for the weekly and only one or two show up each week then the equity could be fantastic!!!:D

I wasnt in any way being critical of Tex. Just saying I thought the 2500 was for a final table buy in as advertised by Pechanga.

Personally I think this tournament is trouble. There are very few experienced players which opens the door wide to the lucky dawg player. You played more games than I did but maybe you can confirm this. To win a table and advance you need a lot of chips. Maybe even have to treat it like an accumulation table. Go big or go home. Which, if you are not the lucky dawg, means go big and go home early.

Yes we do have weekly tourneys on Wed’s at 7pm and Sat’s at 12pm. We will run these through Dec. 23rd, 2006. The Buy-in is $120 for the Satellites for a chance to qualify or $2500 to sign up for the Finals on Jan. 6th & 7th, 2007. As far as room rates we currently do not offer them on the weekends as we are usually booked full, so you might want to reserve in advance to play on a weekend. We are currently working on discounts or FREE rooms for our Wed night tournaments, we will let you know when this comes through. 1 out of every 25 players will advance to the finals from our satellite tourneys every Wed and Sat. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact myself, Mayan Beltran, Table Games Manager, via e-mail or direct line 1-951-770-8365.

I wanted to share the info I received from Mayan. Since there seems to be a little confusion

I’m sorry to inform you that Pechanga Resort & Casino has officially cancelled the $1 Million Dollar Tourney as well as the satellites as of today due to lack of participation. We are planning to have something of this nature in the future so I hope you will keep in touch with us and come visit Pechanga Resort & Casino in the near future. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused, if you have any questions please feel to e-mail me. Sincerely, Mayan Beltran.

Looks like they cancelled.... oh well......

    Excuse me, but idiots

Hey how about my 240 bucks back!? Oh yea the fine print. Why dont these idiots make it a progressive prize pool or something. Cancelation is inexcusable. At least the "little punk" Golden Acorn puts on a good show and doesnt cold feet it out. But the GA needs players. The Pechanga will sucker off its high rollers no matter what. Could you imagine being

one of the poor players that advanced from a Pechanga weekly. Visions of sugar plumbs to visions of the resurrection of Johnny Cochrin.

I'd check into what can be done...

I know in Oklahoma the Indian casinos have to submit any tournament into the state gaming control before starting up. I would assume they do have some type of cancellation cause, but any winners from prior qualifying events should be compensated along with those players who lost money.

I will be interested in seeing how this situation plays out. Maybe a letter to Arnold is in order along with one to the National Indian Tribe Gaming cousel as well.

    Fraud?

Given the small cash payouts to players in the qualifying tournaments - that some of you mentioned - the casino was evidently using a major portion of the buy-ins and rebuys to provide the $1,000,000 tourney entry fees - and those entries - for those who won them - had a real world value - they were worth $2,500 - and this value was promised by the casino - as part of the prize pool for the qualifiers - now - all those set aside buy-ins and rebuys - which were to pay for the qualifiers' entries into the $1,000,000 tourney - - have been converted into casino profits - the 'failed' qualifiers have suddenly become very profitable for this casino - and they stole this money from the players who earned the $1,000,000 entries - I would think that is actionable - any lawyers out there? - if someone tells me I won an item of value - then removes the value from that item - and keeps my payment for themselves - can you do that? - I think this is the type of thing people get sued over - it is theft/fraud - unfortunately - you would probably have to sue in tribal court - yeah - that would work -

    Prize money

Here in Oklahoma all the prize money, all the money except the commissions, has to go back to the people. Casinos have the choice of how, monthly drawings, tournaments, etc.. About suing, it is not very successful.
