Hi I like what Global have done with the points system for the weekly league table especially as it can win you $$$. For those who haven’t seen it yet you get 4 pts for 1st, 1pt for 2nd, 0 pts for 3rd and -1 pts for 4th or 5th. If you are 1st at the end of the week you get $100, 2nd gets $50 and 3rd gets $25. Obviously the emphasis is on 1st but interestingly getting 3rd could now win you money. Perhaps a more accurate statement is to avoid getting 4th or 5th but it’s the same difference. For example, it’s the last S&G of the week, you’re in joint 3rd place in the weekly league, the 1st, 2nd and the other 3rd placed player have already played and finished a S&G so their points won’t change. You are in 3rd place on last hand and can maybe take 2nd or 1st place in the S&G with a big enough bet but you would then open yourself up to being overtaken by BR4. With a small bet you can lock up 3rd but have no chance at 1st or 2nd. What do you do? More generally you can have the same number of 1sts and 2nds but your points tally can vary dramatically depending on where you finish when you’re out of the money. If you played 50 games and came 1st 10 times and 2nd 10 times you points could spread between 50 and 20 and that definitely could be the difference between winning $100 and getting nowt!!
