I just got off the phone with Max Rubin and he informed me that as of 12 noon today the Barona Hotel and Casino is totally sold out they have close to 400 players who have pre-registered for the UBT Circuit event which starts on Wednesday.Keep in mind there is usually a 10 to 20% cancellation rate but even with that it looks like there will be real strong turnout of players competing for 100,000 in total prize money. Another new wrinkle was thrown into this event, this will be a double elimination tournament.Any player not advancing out of round 1 will get a second chance, after all players have played their round 1 tables. Good luck to all attending the Barona UBT event, hope to see you at the Final Table Joep
One new wrinkle has been ironed out. The staff at Barona has decided to remove the double elimination option because of the large number of players and time restraints. Joep
Joep: does Nevada gaming commission allow casinos to make changes at any time before or during an event? Here in Mississippi a casino has to get written permission from the gaming commission to make any changes to an approved event and it takes about 2 weeks for gaming to review the requested changes.
Pokernut I believe Nevada Gaming Law requires all casinos to have changes approved by the board. Here in California on an Indian reservation I'm not sure what rules will apply. On sovereign land things are done in different ways. Joep
Yup, just ask Bet21.com about that  Joe, maybe the double elimination rule only applies to UBT STOPS and not circuit events? I never saw on the Barona site about the double elimination rule.
sure wish there was a double elimination rule @ barona. as, i lost to a dealer bj on the final hand. i did not read where there was to be one. there are 12 w/c into rd 3; 6 w/c into the quarters; 3 w/c into the semis; plus 7 into a w/c final table that sends the winner to the finals in oct. well run tourney, as is to be expected. good staff, great service. high marks so far for barona. at least my partner, leah advanced to rd 2
Sorry to hear about that loss. Don't forget to take pictures! I got the first one e-mailed to me - kinda cute don't you think?
Most of the Indian casino info I have seen says the casino has the right to change or cancel the event at anytime. Im surprised the bad leak saying it was to be double elimination ever got out. The first thing I said was, man thats going to be hard to do with over 400 people in 2 days? That would be about 43 more tables!
by our count, it looks like 378 players total. if all tables had 6 players. and, i think that is what it looked like. so, w/c praying and rooting for my partner. also, being a first timer at barona, the blackjack hall of fame display at barona is an interesting view. max, has been a great host, taking time out from his busy schedule, to show us around.
Best of luck to Leah, I guess thats tomorrow. While your there name drop "Barney" to a few of the UBTs. Just to see the reaction!
No Luck No, round 2 was today. Did not win a single hand after hand 8, was low chip on hand 16, went all in, dealer bj. Waiting for wild card with the rest of the gang. Thanks for the good wishes.
I wonder what happened? Wow, after a full day of playing at Barona I'm surprised we didn't get any updates! Surely the man with the Golden Jacket made it to the promised land? What about boy wonder?
