In addition to their every Saturday blackjack tournament the Hawaiian Gardens Casino is advertising a $50,000 added blackjack tournament on page 49 of the July 1, 2009 CARD PLAYER magazine. Not much information is given---no date shown for the event. It does indicate that you must "qualify" with at least 50 hours of table play. It doesn't really say "must" qualify through table play. The ad reads that 50 hours + $5 equals one buy-in. One-hundred hours + $5 equals two buy-ins, and 150 hours + $5 equals three buy-ins.

Does anyone have more information on this upcoming event? It will be a few days before I can get to the casino.

    Entry fee, $50,000 added tournamen

In looking at the ad again, it reads "$50,000 added." That indicates to me that entry fees will be charged for players who don't "qualify' through hours of table play.

    Update---Hawaiian Gardens $50,000 BJ Tournament

Date of the tournament has not been declared. The date will probably be set for about 3 months from now. This tournament will have a total prize pool of $50,000---all provided by the casino. First place will pay in the neighborhood of $15,000. You must qualify with hours of play. Minimum of 50 hours + $5 qualifies for one entry, 100 hours + $5 qualifies for two entries, 150 hours + $5 qualifies for three entries. Most of the interested local players will earn three entries.

For its live blackjack games this casino uses continuous shuffling machines, hits soft 17, pays 6 to 5 for blackjacks and collects a minimum $1 per hand collection fee. Live games are banked either by players or by the Corporation.

Continuous shuffling machines are not used during tournaments, and there is no collection during blackjack tournaments.

  4. Thanks PT. I saw this same ad in my Card Player and was wondering if the hours needed to qualify are strictly earned on a blackjack table or does time spent on their poker tables also qualify you? It is a moot point due to my distance but I was curious about it.

Qualifying For Hawaiian Gardens $50,000 Tournament

    Hi Blackjack Rebel

I don't know if play on poker tables will earn hours toward the $50,000 BJ Tournament. I'll try to find out, but, it will be a while before I get the info.

The one page ad in CARD PLAYER was impressive because it is completely about blackjack. Poker isn't mentioned even one time. This casino is serious about having blackjack tournaments. There is a tournament every Sat. that pays approx. $2500 for 1st place. Registration fees are high unless you register before the day of the tournament. The multiple advance provision for the 1st and 2nd rounds presents opportunities that are apparently not being fully exploited by members of this site.

  6. Yeah, it sounds like a pretty good opportunity. Good Luck with it.
