    Blackjack is Dead.

    Just kill me now.

    They need to implode that place, as well as the Rio, with their single deck even money game.

    It gets worse...

    Upon donating my entry fee in the Las Vegas Hilton's January qualifier, my hubby and I went down town to the "Old Strip" to find some cheap table games and to eat at one of our many favorite restaurants. One of the most shocking, yet disguisting finds was that at Binion's Horseshoe, table limits were a minimum of $10. Now for the small better such as myself, that is horrendous because the place is a dump to begin with. If I wanted to play $10 a hand, I would do so in a nicer hotel where it seems people have somewhat of an idea how to play blackjack.

    The second suprise was the different handles on the blackjack games. There is one called Match Switch. You play two hands and are dealt two cards each to start with. You can switch the second card in each hand to make a better hand...sounds good right? Well, dealer busts with 22 and bj pays 1:1 unless you get an ace and king of hearts. You can also bet the magic circle and if you get three of a kind or two other kind of poker hands, you can win. I watched a couple of tables play and it looked as though they were either loosing their bank or breaking even some of the time.

    The other blackjack game was one called 2-6. Don't really remember the rules on this one. Anyone else?

    Needless to say, it was difficult to find a good blackjack table without all the "extras" in the downtown area.

    I guess I need to open my wallet a little further and pull out a few bigger bills to play at better tables.

    What happened to good ole' fashion blackjack?

    There are still some decent BJ games downtown, just not at the Horseshoe anymore.

    $5.00 Vegas BJ Tables

    comonseven,
    You may want to try the Palace Station your next trip, they have a number of $5.00 minimum BJ tables, most of the players are local so don't get upset when they stand on 14 against dealer 10, they are very friendly to patrons, very loose with comps (I got a $40 dinner comp the 2nd night), the steak house restaurant is probably in the top 75% in Vegas and if you ask a host you can probably be invited to their monthly $10,000 BJ tournament which is invitational and includes free entry plus 3 free nights in a tower room, they do not require you to play a minimum $ bet for X number of hours to qualify for this during the tournament, if you are invited you're in. They are not on the strip but have free shuttles to and from the airport and hourly free shuttles to and from the strip and mall. I would recommend if you're interested in their invitational BJ tournaments you apply for a minimum $5,000 line of credit before your visit, you don't have to use it but just being on record helps.

    Cool!

    Thanks Rookie! Will look into that. I know there were a few tables out there that were good, I was just suprised by the number of hokie games that were out there. In case some of you haven't seen it, there is even the game of War...yes War in the casinos. This game seems even funnier if you have seen Vegas Vacation with Chevy Chase.

    Rock Paper Scissors

    For a brief time in casinos in Mississippi, there was actually a table game called Rock Scissors Paper. Talk about Vegas Vacation material. I guess next up is 'Pick a Number'.

    It's Still There

    Should have went to the end of the street to the "New Plaza". Since it was bought out a while back by Barrick Gaming they have really improved the DD game.

    2D S17 DA2 DAS Sp3 SpA3 nS FD HS/SC 10T 64±3% $5/3,000 EV = –0.114%

    It is the probably one of the best games in Vegas at this time. :)

    Acronym soup

    Man, that's a pretty terse line DanMayo.
    I'll give it a shot:

    2D = 2 deck
    S17 = Dealer stands on all 17s
    DA2 = Double any 2 cards
    DAS = Double after split allowed
    Sp3 = You can split up to 3 times, making 4 hands
    SpA3 = You can also resplit Aces up to 3 times
    NS = No surrender offered
    FD = Face Down?
    HS/SC = Hand shuffled / Second-Card used to indicate when it's time to shuffle again.
    10T = Probably means you are allowed to split any ten-valued cards, like splitting a (Ten, Queen)
    64+-3% = 61% to 67% penetration before the shuffle
    $5/$3000 = Betting limits are $5 to $3000
    EV = Correct basic strategy yields a house edge of 0.114%

    If you're downtown, this game and a similar one at the Las Vegas Club are worth a visit.

    You got it Ken (almost)

    Ken,

    You got it except for the 10T is indication of how many tables are available when everything is open. (But the splits 10's is correct also)

    And yes the FD is face down, i.e. a hand held pitch game.

    So if anyone is in the area, enjoy! :D

    Rio and BJ and ol fashioned BJ

    Thought all their tables were 1-1 or 6-5, until the final night there, I wandered into the main pit late at night, early in the morning when the stakes were $25. Found the double deck pitch games still pay 3-2. There's usually only two $25 tables and two $50. Or you could go into the highrollers room for $100 and $200 and get the old fashioned game.

    Gold Coast had four double deck games with traditional odds, but cut about 50 per cent.

    Plaza downtown with $5 double deck and traditional odds. about 75 per cent penetration.

    And just to stir things up, though I haven't tried it yet. If the 6-5 and 1-1 continues, with everything else the same(and since most on this site have thought about it or done it in tournament play), why not force them all to go back by doubling the BJ in the 6-5 or 1-1 games. Especially if you're a reasonable counter and there's good penetration.
