Well, seems pretty quiet lately here about the 2nd monthly Winstar Tourney. I have Ken's "E-Book", and need to study it (again) this afternoon before the tourney. I made it ALMOST to the money round last time (i.e. to the at least $500/top 36 round) but got knocked off in the round (4th on the table with 4 people where 3 out of 4 made it dagnabbit!)... But today, I'm hoping to go on farther! OF course, I'll probably get smashed out on the first round this time...last time I had to go all in TWICE in first round, but eeked by, and then easily won my table the 2nd round (round 3) and should have won round 4 (was just very bad luck on having to act/bet 1st on the 21st hand and losing while all 3 other players at table won)...

    Good luck to all! DLC

    Nota Buena!!!

Please note... They CHANGED the Registration Time from 2-4 pm as it was for the FIRST Monthly tourney to Noon-2 pm for today's tourney... They SAID they announced it but despite the fact I was there playing blackjack for about 3 hours the DAY BEFORE, no one bothered to mention it to me, and I saw no signs, even though I went to the BOX OFFICE to ask if there were still buy-ins available as I had a friend who wanted to get in...I had gotten my chip off a HotSeat winner a month or so back...

SO, I show up at 2:15, and I was TOO LATE! DENIED! Couldn't play this month...at least I got a May 9 chip for my troubles, but what a bummer!

    Caveat Emptor and Nota Buena!!!

    DLC

    Sorry you missed this month

The time change started being announced last month and even during the March qualifier they mentioned the time change for the April qualifier. I'm glad they at least gave you an entry chip for the may event.

Several BIG guns were in attendance for the April qualifiers, but no one I knew made the finals. matter of fact most of the seasoned tournament players were out by the third round (myself included).

The April event offered the same advancing in the first two rounds (3 out of 6), but in the quarterfinals they advanced 4 out of 5 (wish I could have made it there...lol), Semifinals are always 1 out of 6 to the finals.

Once again they had a low turnout. Winstar passed out 180 entry chips and sold around 31 entry chips for the April qualifier (total 211), however they only had 177 total players show up (on time anyway, the time change did affect a few players).

Rules are enforced, just sometimes a player may have to get the pit boss attention and point out the infraction, (tournament rules are new to some of them). Starting on time is a BIG rule, I saw a player disqualied for coming to the table after the cards to see where the button started were dealt, (the actual round hadn't started yet and but were gone)!

With the new 2:00 p.m. starting time the semifinals round was over and it was still daylight, but the finals didn't start till around 8:30-9:00 p.m. anyway.

Play again was interesting to say the least. Several locals are starting to understand tournament play, they know to ALWAYS split 20 regardless what the dealer has up, split cards you shouldn't or hit a hand of hard 17 or above, stand on hands 12 to 16 against dealers face cards, because they want to change the cards and mess up the other players...lol. I laugh, but last weekend it seem to be working for them, we can only hope they keep playing that way.

It really is a nice event and I expect more players to start attending over the next few months.

Rick Hartsell and Jan Swanson were the only seasoned players who had a shot at the finals, but neither of their last hands were helpful. Jan had a very nice lead, but when one of the players went all in on back to back hands he found himself as BR2 on the table. Those all ins with no maximum bets are a killer!

I just noticed that none of the Winstar tournaments is posted on the calendar. Can someone with the dates and details take care of that? Thanks.

I am interested in playing the Winstar tournaments in May, June & July.
How is the best way to get to Thackerville other than driving one's own car?
Also, where is a decent place to stay?? D:) oes the casino have a hotel?
    Any help will be appreciated.
I will be traveling from Nashville, TN.
    Anyone interested in traveling together?

Quickest point of travel would be Air to DFW airport, then drive about 1 1/2 hours to Tex/OK border, 1st exit after you get into OK. Casino does not have a hotel to the best of my knowledge, but there is one close by & the DFW area is just a short drive south.

Spring, you have three options for flying to these tournaments.

    1) DFW and about 1 1/2 to the casino
    2) Love Field (Dallas) for Southwest flyers, also about 1 1/2 to the casino.
    3) Oklahoma City, about 2 hours from the casino, but I've heard has cheaper airfare.

Now for hotels, there is a Microtel motel about 1/2 mile from the casino, but I don't know the rates. Just accross the Texas stateline in Gainsville they have a Hampton Inn, LaQuinta, and Hoiliday Inn Express, again I don't have any rates, but those are the three I would suggest staying at.

    Hampton Inn

I believe the Hampton Inn was $99 with AAA or AARP discount. It is right next to Cracker Barrel at last exit north before getting to state line. It is about a 10 minute drive max to casino.

I think there is also a new Comfort Suites just one exit further away next to the Days Inn.

    Great golf course at Winstar

For those who like to golf, Winstar has a GREAT course (I've been told by several players).

How for the bad news! The discounted chips have come to a slow down. New rules have gone into effect as of yesterday, "NO MORE HUSSLING CHIPS"! Any players going up to a hot seat winner to buy his/her chips will be kicked out of the casino and barred from the blackjack tournament.

Players may purchase these chips only if, they have been playing at the table where the chip was awarded or if the winner approches you to buy it.

Two players were ban from the tournament for hussling chip yesterday.

    Chips

So you can get banned for offering to buy a chip from someone, but they don't ban you for trying to sell it? Does that mean if you have a chip to sell on Friday that you can stand out and offer to sell it, but don't go asking anyone if they have one to sell otherwise you could be banned?

Doesn't make much sense to me. Seems like they should just make the chips non transferable. The rules don't prohibit free enterprise.

    Since?

WHEN DID A CASINO EVER MAKE SINCE
THEY DO WHAT EVER THEY WANT WHENEVER THEY WANT

This is an environment thing. Having people roaming the casino on these hot seat days trying to buy chips before the people that won them can figure out what they are worth has got to be annoying to the house. Even if it is a service for the players that win the seats, these are people that are probably not there to play the -EV games that the casino has, so they are just a disturbance to the casino. It's nice enough that the chips are transferable.
