Are the Tulsa Cherokee Blackjack events dead?

From what I am hearing we may have seen the last of the week long blackjack tournaments at the Cherokee casino in Tulsa.

Normaly they would have started advertising for their February events by now. I was told that they are looking at going back to the old tournament format of only allowing players with a set number of hours played on the regular tables a chance to play in any up coming tournaments.

It's a shame that they are not going to continue these week long blackjack tournaments after working so hard to build them up.

I understand the thought process behind the change, this way the prize money will be won by locals and the money will stay locally. At least by someone that puts in the required hours needed to qualify for the tournaments.

What I don't understand is why cancel the current blackjack tournaments when they give away so much more in the poker events?

With their location (centrally located), and if they continued to host these week long events, and add a little more to the prize pools I think they could easly have some of the biggest player turnouts in the country.

After all they have to give away all the money they win, all they get to keep are the antes.

If they go back to the free $30,000 1st prize monthly events for qualified players with X number of hours, plus open the event up to everyone else at a $300 entry, just think how many players they would draw?

Think about all the rooms they could and would sellout, the food and any and all table or machine play they would receive during that week.

They could hold the week long $100 entries and then with the out of town players entries and re-buys adding to the prize pool, first place could be over $50,000 easy for the main event.

Just my opinion, what do y'all think?

Here goes, the same thing I harp about all the time. NOT ENOUGH SIDE ACTION. From what I read (I've never been there) the BJTers are there to socialize and the rest of their time is spent playing the tournaments - no time for side action means no profit for the casino so why bother???

    True to some degree

I agree with you Toolman to some degree, but they still get play from alot of the players. At the Cherokee casino the average amount bet isn't a factor, only the antes is what the Cherokee get to keep, so any and all action is should be worth it for them.

Plus they get the room and food sells, the players are not comp-ed unless they give them the action. Why have all the empty rooms during the week with no chance of any antes if no one is there?

The old rule of thumb, "A little bit of something is better then a lot of nothing"!

However I do agree that the players need to give them side action if they are going up to the events and not just play in the tournaments. Hell the last tournaments they hosted they gave away $10 - $30 in ante chips away with each original entry, into each event, a very nice deal for the players.

    Side Action

We give them plenty of side sction and encourage others to do the same. That is better than not even showing up for these great events!
