I've seen the freerolls for Aruba

I've read that it was scheduled for March

    But what are the dates?

Why do we have to wait until April for a U.S./state side UBT event?

Why do the UBT events HAVE to be at a casino? Where were the first season events held, the ones that lead to the final tables for season 1?

I don't know any dates, so I'll skip that one.

Why in a casino? Unless the event is strictly a freeroll, it's gambling, and falls under the gambling laws. At least that's my understanding.

Why do you have to wait until April for stateside events? You don't. Go to Barona near San Diego in mid-January. Open to all for a $550 entry fee. I'll be there.

Season one? The initial 63 player tournaments were held at Lake Las Vegas at the Hyatt. The final tables of 7 players were filmed in LA at CBS Studios. (These events were freerolls, in case you were wondering.)

    Thanks for the info Ken,

I wasn't aware that the initial UBT events WERE freerolls.

As far as Barona, I am planning on being there but something has come up and I may have to postpone this time!

I'm already making plans for the Palms in April.

I guess it's just the frustration factor setting in. Remember when the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT went out over the airwaves about all the UBT stops? They were planning on 1 stop per month. What happened

I was under the impression that if you were to have a tournament, of whatever, if all the entry fees were returned in the prize pool it wouldn't be subject to the same gaming rules and regulations that the casinos function under. Apparently I was wrong.

I just don't get how you can have a Las Vegas Charity night here in Florida and raise funds but you couldn't have a private UBT event here! Hey I guess that's why I'm not a lawyer right?

    Lots of difference

The Charity fund raisers are just that "For Charity" and all money raised (except expences) are for said Charity.

"Free" tournaments I am talking about are where it doesn't cost the player anything other than their entry and or re-buy to play.

Now if anyone was to do a "Free" event they might be able to put one on (depending on the state and city) and as long as 100% of any and all entries and re-buys are returned as prize money (simular to a pool tournament). Now more can be added legally but 100% minimum has to be paid back out to make it legal.

I have hosted several "Free" local BJ tournaments and in public locations. However the only money I am legally allowed to receive is if I win one of the events.

I did have a $5 option once for additional chips and that money covered expences (dealers only, no table rentals), but depending on who you asked it was in a gray area.

Unless outside sponsors are paying for the event, it isn't cost effective to host "Free" events.

The poker tournaments I run are paid that way, a club or restrurant pays me to host the events but it is free for all the customers that are playing so it is legal.

I have even given away cash prizes legally with the police, local DA, and TABC (TX alcohol and beverage commission) all present.

The problem is finding someone willing to sponsor and give away free money.

while I don't know the exact dates of this spring's planned Aruba tourstop, I do know that the link you listed actually refers to LAST year's Aruba UBT event. I'm sure that when all the details for the upcoming trip down there are finalized, they'll update that website page as well as start running qualifiers to win entry fees/travel packages...

Mea culpa, HD - I didn't realize that webpage was for last year's schedule. It doesn't say so, thank you for pointing it out!

As far as running qualifiers for entry fees / travel packages - I thought playubt.com did just that with a freeroll two or three weeks ago.

    ARUBA CANCELLED????

On the PlayUBT.com official website under sponsors UB.com is an official sponsor. This is what it says....

    http://ww.playubt.com/ubt_toursched_partners.aspx?pge_id=60&pge_pge_id=5

I wonder what happened? You gain one step with weekly events at the Palms but then go back two steps with a cancelled event! Does anyone know who won the playubt.com freeroll seat?

I'm confused. None of that says anything has been cancelled, and as HD pointed out, all of that webpage is talking about last year's event in September or so.
