A court decision yesterday calls into question one of the long-standing assumptions that online casinos have used to assert their legality in the US. The Federal Wire Act includes language that made sportsbetting over the telephone illegal, but a Federal court decision from Louisiana several years ago had ruled that the Wire Act did not apply to casino-style gambling, only sportsbetting. Today, another court disagreed with that notion, and the result may be far-reaching.
