The popular Bally's Tunica tournament is now going to be held 4 times per year instead of 3. The date for the next event is April 22-24, 2005. Additional tournaments this year will likely be in July and October.

For those of you who have seen me play there, just think... Now I could play 8 hands a year!

Don't need to see you play to get that joke.

Where at? Vegas I'm assuming, curse me and my east-living ways.

    It's in Mississippi

This is an event at Bally's Tunica in Mississippi, 30 miles south of Memphis.
Today's event paid $60,000 for first place. The casino always adds $25,000 to the entries, so it's a guaranteed overlay.

The format is unusual. You play twice in non-elimination or accumulation-style rounds. That is, you get $1000 twice, and play 25 hands each time. Your final tally is added together, and all the scores are ranked. The top 35 scores advance to the semifinal round, where they are joined by a single wild-card drawing player.

The format in the semifinals reverts to elimination style, with one player advancing from each table of 6 semifinalists. The six players who advance are joined by a wild-card winner drawn from all players.

My strategy in this event is maximum boldness in the first two rounds. Betting limits are $5 to $1000 from the bankroll of $1000. I go all-in on hand one. This time I played only two hands in the whole tournament. In my first round, the dealer made a 3-card 21. In my second round, the dealer blackjacked.

To "make the cut" and advance to the semifinals this time took $5542.50, which actually ended up being a tie for 35th and 36th places, leading to a four-hand playoff.
