If anyone clicked here expecting that I'd have some information about the subject I apologize.

I'm pretty much an old-school, bricks-and-mortar blackjack tournaments sorta guy. And, maybe it's just me, but I am having trouble getting a handle on what's an invitational and what's an open tournament anymore. I used to know, because the casino hosting the tournament would announce it, . . . or someone within this forum would publish it.
(n.b. I'm internet savvy enough to get by, but I'm not really interested in playing blackjack or any other play-for-money game on-line where I cannot see the other players. How do I know they're not passing cards to each other under the table?)

I know I can telephone the folks at Barona, but I'd rather just see something laid out here by somebody who knows, . . . like:
__Is the BVR Jan 19 tournament open? And does "open" mean what it has always meant? Or what?
__If so what's the entry fee?
    __If so, what's the buy-in?
__What's the prize structure? And does it include cash or big-time-blackjack-tournament seats? Or what?

    Y'know what I'm talking about.
Just like in the good old days of the late 20th Century, when a guy could see a $70,000 prize pool, with first-place paying $30,000 and an entry fee of $300 and a buy-in of $300, . . . and a guy could decide if he wanted to play or not.

    Thanks!

    The future

Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about. Yesterday I wrote a post about the lack of tournament information being posted to the CALENDAR. Evidently, it is falling on deaf ears. In the last 7 days only 1 new event was posted on the CALENDAR. Pitiful.

Maybe it's because most seem to be preoccupied with the UBT that the CALENDAR is being neglected. Internet play and all that crap too. The real fun, the real reason we are all here is, as you referred, tournaments at good old 20th century Brick & Mortar Casinos. If we let those die, then when the hype and novelty of the UBT dies down, we, the average joe, will have no place to go. But none is willing to look that far into the future. Too bad. :(

    Philly,

I did call Barona about the January 19-21 event. I used the number on the Barona website that is promoting this UBT event.

The hostess did not have the information about the event - only that they are holding it. I asked the following questions:

When is it - times to be exact - not finalized at this time
How much will it be Entry fee is 540.00 Unsure about rebuys
How much is the final prize Unsure at this time

The lady was very nice but she just didn't have the information about the January event. I was told that if I applied for a 10,000 casino credit I would have my entry fee "comped"

Will the January event be a "single event" - I don't know. I was given the impression that the winner of this 540 tourney would gain entry into the "tournament of Champions Event" to be held at the Barona in late 2007. When pressed for information about that she told me once again she didn't have any additional information.

To anyone else who has the proper insider information I would ask the following questions about this event:

    1. Will there be satellite events being held at the Barona or is this a single event?
    2. Are any SNG's planned during this time?
    3. Since this is a 540 main event table is there the possibility of it being a filmed event?
