Beginner Blackjack Answer MAST11, It depends on a lot of things but yes it is usually possible, but not easy. Best Count? A good place to start would be: www.blackjackforumonline.com/content/How toCount.htm Dan

8 Deck Game Not Much Difference In 6 & 8, & It Is No More Difficult To Count. You Can Beat It Only If You Bet Minimum Until You Get A Nice Positive True Count And Then Jump In With A Good 8 Or 10 Spread. With The 8 Deck You Do Have The Possibility Of Longer Negative Or Positive Runs.
hmmmm I am in the same situation as the original poster and before I go to all the effort and hard work of learning to count I wan't to know if I can use it at my local Casino's. I'm up near Niagara Falls and Casino Rama. (Canada) From what I can see so far is that they do have 6 and 8 deck games and they cut (penetrate) almost half way into the shoe. At least this is what I can tell so far. Does anyone have any experience at these two Casino's or just some general sugestions about this situation. Thanks.
Tough games I was just up at Niagra Fallsview this passed weekend. I found that most tables were constant shufflers which won't do you any good counting. They do have some shoe games (I only found 8 deck games) on the main casino floor. In the high limit salon ($100 min.) shoe games (also 8 decks) were all I saw being dealt. All shoe games had poor penetration. These games will be very tough for a starting counter.
These days I only play 1 game... 6 deck shoe. The 8 deck game is beatable but of course 6 is better in my book. I only play when theres ATLEAST 2/3rds penetration... any less don't even bother with that table. Proficient counting will serve you well with these conditions. Living in Vegas is NOT a must, but Vegas will always be the best place to play. I hate the tables at AC, and I'm not even fond of Reno anymore. I hear Miss. is still ok. Vegas is numero uno, after that I'd say Louisiana but keep in mind theres literally like no casinos in Louisiana that allow the option too surrender but at the end of the day its not THAT big of a deal if you know what your doing. But the fact remains, you gotta have the cards man. May the cards fall ur way, good luck.
I'm pretty sure turning stone near syracuse has some single deck and ofcourse 6 deck games. im a begining card counter myself andand eventually when i get good enough thats prolly where ill head. im not sure exactly how far it would be away from niagra falls though.
Surrender in Louisiana You are wrong. Both of the casinos here in Baton Rouge offer surrender. Casino Rouge only offers it on their 6 decks games but Argosy offers it on all the tables including their occasional double deck game. You can get the double deck game by gathering some friends together on a slow weeknight and asking the pit boss to open a table for everyone. They will usually open it for 4 or more people with a $25/min. Casino Rouge penetration is fair, exactly four decks. They have a slot in the shoe so all the dealers put the card in the same place. Argosy penetration varies by dealer; at least 4 decks but some dealers will go to 5. But I'm warning you, these boats have HOT dealers and I don't mean good looking. I've worked these boats twice a week and am lucky if I break even on a month. I do much better in Biloxi.
Hi, I play with the KO-Counting System. It is unbalanced and it works great. I can really recommend it. Usually I just play Single Deck Face Up and 6 Deck. I do not like 8 deck shoes because I think it is way more difficult to win. Good luck to u!!!
Indiana If you happen to be in the Indiana area the tables at Blue Chip are pretty good. They don't offer surrender, but they use 6 deck shoes and an 80% or better penetration. I do very well here. Cherub
