The Atlantis Casino/Reno is hosting a tournament March 3-5 with a total of $20,600 prize money based on 240 entries, entry is $179 without room which is $42,960 based on 240 players. This gives them a profit without side play of $22,360 less their generous offer of free cocktails and appetizers during the awards presentation.

If casino's can fill a "Pay for Play" tournament with an underlay like this they will never consider 100% pay back with only a 10% VIG and side play as profit.

  2. Agree

Agree with you Rookie. Nice profit for the Casino along with side action. Of the $20,600, I wonder what the breakdown is? 40%, 20%, 10% to top 3 and break down from there. Just boycott these type of tournaments and they will wonder why numbers are down. For me personally, Do not know how much airfare just to get to Atlantis would cost me but imagine a pretty penny.

    Take care

    Prize break down

Capt., Although they pay down to 76th place ($25), first only pays $3,500.

  4. Thanks

Guarantee you my airfare and travel would chew up 1/3 of 1st place. Would definately put pressure on to place well and we knows what happens there. I definately would pass on this tournament.

    Atlantis Tourneys

    Gentlemen,

I posted that tourney on the Events Schedule a while back (months ago) and as some of you know, I frequent the Atlantis regulary and will be in that tournament. Also, the Atlantis web site is very good at giving months notice of all its events - in plenty of time to get most reasonable airfare from anywhere in the country. It is an accumulation tourney, not elimination. I just wanted to put things in perspective. the fee you quote is for those that don't qualify for a FREE invitaiton which also includes room nights that do not come out of the comps you earn - the Atlantis does not profit as you have originally posted and I must take expection to the title of this thread as is not justified. My experience is that there is a majority of players that do not pay a fee at all, and the Atlantis will increase the prize pool with more than the expected number of entrants as they have done in the past.

    Not a dispute

    Chips,
I am not a regular at the Atlantis and based my post entirely on the printed information the Atlantis mailed me. It states $179 entry without room, $20,600 total prize money based on 240 entries. When I penciled out $20,600 divided by 240 entrants each seat for 100% equity would be valued at $86 not $179. I have no problem with casinos comping VIP's if they wish but feel in an open (paid entry) tournament the casino should absorb VIP comp costs, not pass it on to the "Pay for Play" entrants which results in a less than 50% equity tournament for paying entrants. If I was comped in I would be there but I refuse to pay to enter a tournament that results in as large a negative equity as this tournament does.

    Any good ones left?

The only decent open tournaments that I can think of are the ones at JA Nugget. Well, at least, several years ago they were. I do not know how good the tournaments are now as I have been banned from ever setting foot there again.

Most of the downtown casinos hold BJ tournaments. But, they are all invitational. Anybody got the info on how much play is required to get invited, particularly, to the ones at Silver Legacy and Eldorado?

    Never been

Having never been to Reno, I wouldn't know about any of their tournaments other then what Chips has told me.

He tells me they put on nice tournaments and the casinos are very nice up there.

I know Bradley Peterson goes up to Reno a lot and he really seems to enjoy it up there.

I respect both of those gentlemen and based on what they say I would be incline to take a trip to Reno for some tournaments.

  10. Well Tex, Chips and I would love to have you there. Why don't we make plans for an event such as this in March?

    Reno

If you have never been to Reno/Lake Tahoe......especially for those of us who live in the flat areas of this world, it is really breath taking.
It needs to be seen at least once.
Just don't try to bring your golf clubs in Nov.

  13. You are invited too Swog. Chips and I would love to see you and Tex up there. Let's plan a field trip. Mini tournaments to pay up there too nearly eveyday.
