This tournament was the second on my schedule for my recent brief Vegas visit. I would say this is definitely a local's event and not only because of the location way north of downtown. Details on tournament listing page are generally accurate but a couple of key points are easy to overlook and/or misunderstand.

Registration does open at 9AM and play does begin at 10AM and you get to choose both which table and which position you want from the open seats. A key point is that although play begins at 10AM the final Round 1 games begin about 1:15PM and you can take your chances and arrive anytime up until then to play if seats are open. The only advantage in arriving before 10AM is that the tables are almost empty for the first Round 1 games. We had three players at our table and there were tables with just two players. Since you have to come in first to advance (2nd gets a wild card to the semi-finals at 2PM) the odds of advancing are definitely better if you arrive early. BUT, and for a tourist it's a big BUT, you're may end up hanging around the casino for 4 hours to play in the semi-finals or just for a wild card shot. I came in 2nd but was not willing to hang around that long. In fact, if I had come in first, I would have still walked away from the game.

Given the common ownership of the Cannery and the Rampart casinos, my experience at the Cannery led me to abandon plans to play in the Rampart weekly on Tuesday. I had previous plans for Monday night so was unable to experience their weekly UBT $50 game. All in all, that may have been the better choice in the first place.
