Casino Verite Blackjack Tournament Software

Has anyone tried the tournament mode of Casino Verite Blackjack? I just got the program and I'm testing it now. I'll post later on its performance.

I haven't used a lot of the other BJ simulators out there, so I can't compare -- but I have used Verite heavily, especially for running simulations in the Tournament mode before going off to Connecticut to play in the World Series of Blackjack @ Mohegan Sun.

Like all the others in the Tourney, I can't tell you how I did (my qualifying round episode airs March 22nd) but I will tell you this -- Verite was instrumental in me formulating the specific ass-kicking strategies I used in that game. The Verite 'tournament mode' has a lot of flexibility in terms of player settings and other variables of game play, and can be configured for any type of tourney or skill level of opponents.

Now if only qFit would cut me an nice endorsement deal!

I have CV and have used it extensively. However, I'm embarrassed to admit that I never used the tournament mode... until I read your post.

I have used it a lot over the last couple of days, practicing for the IP tournament next month.

I find it to be a wonderful program, with lots of flexibility to customize various players and styles of play.

It is a tremendous help to me.

Appreciate the info on the simulator. I can use the help. After an 8 hr drive back from Biloxi last week, went directly to Sears and bought an electric ass-kicker and stood in front of it for half an hour. I doubled a 9 against a 7 and it cost me a seat at the final table at the Grand. Is there a web site to order the software?

Hoyle Casino

I have used Hoyle Casino and do like the tournament function. Has anyone else used it?

 

Fun, but...

Hoyle is fun to play around with, but it dosen't or wouldn't help you that much for really tournament play. They need a program that is more realistic, that will rotate the deal, allow you to count other players chips, & surrender. One online casino is working on this type of program for their site and hopes to have it up and running by the summer. Now I would play that online tournament.

 

Trippy Chips

I want to add my endorsement to Casino Verite. I have been using it for happily for several years, and I recently purchased the upgrade (3.0) for the enhancements in the tournament mode. It's great, but I'm having some problems with it. During play, my chip totals flucuate randomly and sometimes dissappear altogether.

I've been in touch several times with the Norm, and he has been very helpful, but he says he has not heard reprorts of anyone else having the trouble. So, I'm asking here- anyone getting funny business while in the tournament mode with "suppress chip totals" selected?

I, too, have been having strange issues in tournament mode. However, I do not use the "supress chip totals" feature.

My issue is with blackjack payoffs. Every time I get a BJ, I must take the "bonus" payment off the stack in the betting circle and move it to my stack. Otherwise, it will not be counted as part of the bet in the next hand, and gives some graphical problems.

Also, at various times, particularly on a large bet payoff, the graphic of the chips cannot be taken off the "table," even though I can change my bet.

Despite these minor issues, I consider CV to be a wonderful, VERY helpful product.

 

CV Tournament Mode Problems

I have also encountered the same problems others have noted. Also, sometimes the computer counting players do not split aces. The computer players also do not make optimal bets late, e.g. doubling on the last hand if it's the only way to win. Norm said Tournament mode will be upgraded (don't know when) in the next version. Despite the numerous bugs, it's the best we have right now to practice tournament play on the computer.

 

change bet?

how do you change the bet without taking the chips off the table? i have experienced the same issue with the demo version and have been hesitant to buy the real version cause it sucks when i go all in , win, and can't pull back my chips to bet properly on the next round

 

Which software for tourney simulations?

Which software package did you use for running the tournament simulations? It looks like there are 2 simulators in qfit's website: CVData and CVCX.

Also, does the simulator have similar capabilities as Stanford Wong's Tournament BJ software? I am referring to the ability to "test" different bet sizes and playing strategies for a given hand.

Which software is recommended?

I didn't know if I should start a new thread or not, but in my search I found this from earlier which seems to answer my question, up to the last post. Can someone answer which version is best to get? I looked at the CV software site and really couldn't figure out what I needed to buy. Also is Wong's software recommended as well? Should I buy both?

 

Casino Verite

I have been using this software since it came out several years ago on a floppy. It has been through numerous upgrades, and is dynamic in this respect. Norm Wattenberger is the owner & creator, emai is norm@qfit.com He welcomes feedback & implements reasonable ideas. I communicated with him recently & he stated the Tournament mode in now in the upgrade process.
Someone mentioned the problem with funny payoffs & counts. My experience is that if you let the program run to long without starting a new "trip" the problems develop.
An easy way to make a same bet & not have to clean the chips off of the spot is to use F4 key. It really speads things along. You can play 30 hands with 4 computer players in about 7-8 minutes. But playing 30 hands really accomplishes very little. Setting to 15 hands or 20 max provides the best practice since most of the computer players are very static in their first 20 bets even when they are set to "aggressive"
I highly recommmend this software.

I appreciate the feedback and recommendations. I have other software that does a good job at learning basic strategy and counting, but it doesn't handle tournament situations. Tournament play is definately different, but a lot of fun if you don't get to stressed out!

The best part of learning is watching finals hands being played at a table when it can be anyones win depending on how you get your bets down and how the dealer plays out.

 

CVBJ problems

I also have had problems with the tournament mode. In my case, it's the player at first base which, especially late in the round, has two stacks of chips in the betting circle. Moreover, even the total of the two stacks doesn't seem to be his bet since the payoff can exceed that, even going over the max. bet. I'm running the game with 6 players and don't know if the problem disappears in a different format.

The other problem is with it surrendering my bet without my indicating a play. I have not emailed Norm about these problems.
