Last year I heard so many players complaning about how hard it was to get to the WSOB qualifiers. Well from here in Texas most everyone was hard to get to.

But this year I am trying to help myself and maybe ya'll should try helping yourselves as well. I am talking to the marketing managers at the closest casinos to me and suggesting they host WSOB qualifiers and explaining how they will draw in players and build their business by doing so.

I would love it if not only Tulsa, OK - Cherokee, but Durant, OK - Choctaw, and Shrevport, LA would host some "OPEN" qualifiers this year.

If ya'll want closer qualifiers to you then maybe ya'll should start talking to your local casinos as well.

I don't know the UBT schedule for this year yet, but we may even be able to do the same for UBT next year if need be.

    Facts and Figures

What kind of concrete information is available that we can use to back up this claim? Marketing managers will want proof that this is in the casino's best interest. In some cases gaming commissions have to be persuaded to include blackjack tournaments in their compacts.

    Depends on the format...

Nothing is every concrete! However if they are willing to take the gamble they should come out ahead over all. This includes TV advertising for their casinos everytime the winning qualifier from their casino is on the show.

Last year the higher entry fees for the one day or weekend events didn't seem to go over that well.

But like Tulsa that offered a weekly $25 entry for Friday and Sunday qualifiers over a 12 week period or so seem to fill up pretty well.

Also by hosting the events like this the casinos didn't out price their local players. With a inexpensive entry fee hosted over a few months the casino should re-coup their orignal investment plus.

    Weekly Qualifiers

That makes sense. For example Ho-Chunk couldn't get an adequate number of players to pay a $400 entry fee for a Saturday tournament. But they've had good success in running series' of tournaments that give players a chance to win a big prize, such as a truck. Mystic Lake got lots of players into their WSOB events using this format.

Which casinos had the biggest successes in their WSOB events? How did they run the tournaments?

    Good question

I'm not sure which casinos had the best results and player turnouts.

Tulsa wasn't to bad, I guess they had a little under 100 for every event. If they would have offered re-buy's (even at the same price) They could have come out in very good shape.

From what I heard about Mystic Lake, they must have had a large turnout and UTE Mountain had a lot of players, (I heard of several players going to theirs). I think that was partly because they were the last one left hosting the qualifiers.

Whoever host the events I hope they offer re-buys and surrender options to the players. It isn't much funny traveling from out of town and state for only one chance to advance.
