December: Playing both Frontier and Hilton

I'm working out my schedule now, and I just confirmed a few details about avoiding possible schedule conflicts. Here's the deal...

New Frontier's tournament is Thursday and Friday, Dec 16-17. The Hilton MDBJ3 qualifier is Friday and Saturday Dec 17-18. If the Hilton is typical of recent events, there will be only two qualifying rounds on Friday, probably at 10 AM and Noon. That could be an issue if you've advanced to round 2 at the Frontier.

Frontier's Friday looks like this: Round 2 is in 4 flights: 9 AM, 10 AM, 11 AM and Noon. Quarter finals are 1 PM and 2 PM. Semis at 3, finals at 4.

Thus, you can easily accomodate both, by choosing an appropriate playing time at the Hilton, and managing the conflict at the Frontier. Either time is an option at Hilton.

    LV Hilton time change

Ken the Hilton MD III start time has been moved to 12:00 noon and 1:30 on Fridays. I heard they changed them a few months ago. This could create a problem if you want to play both the Hilton and New Frontier.

Double check, but I think that those times are correct. Maybe they're only starting late if they have 120 players or less. With more players they may go back to 10:00 and 12:00 starting times.

    That's tougher to manage.

Yes, I heard today that the LVH rounds were later.
That'll make life difficult. Basically, anyone interested in playing both will need to play in an earlyish round 2 at Frontier, and try to manage a Noon Hilton and 2 PM Fronter QtrFinal.

Let me know what you work out

I would like to know what you work out. I'm pretty sure I will be signing up for the LVH in December too and would be interested in playing both if it can be worked out. Sounds like it would be a lot of fun!

Kenneth: are you passing on the Stardust (Dec12-15) or are they passing on you?

    Not my choice

The 'Dust is passing on me. When I called, they were "sold out". I then talked to Mike M, and learned that I'm now on their dreaded "List".

But, I'm still coming out for the Frontier and Hilton MDBJ3 events.

    What was decided?

    Ken,

What did you decide to do regarding playing both? I got a copy of the schedule from the Frontier and it looks like 100 of 180 advance to play on Friday. They assume 100% of people who don't make the cut in round 1 rebuy. If not everyone rebuys, that just increases your chances to move to round 2. You could still play round 2, but if you make the cut to the quarter final 40, then I guess you run into conflicts with playing the Hilton too.

I went ahead and signed up for both, hoping to have a problem to deal with :)

I don't think it will be too tough to manage

I'm signed up for both. My plan is to arrange for an early round two at the Frontier, then a 12 noon Hilton round. Then a 2 PM round 3 at the Frontier avoids any problems. If needed, you could actually get back to the Frontier for the 1 PM round 3 as well, though I hope that's not required.

    Hilton times

I checked with the Hilton yesterday and they told me the schedule times have not been established yet. Evidently they have been doing the first rounds in the morning, but he said that last month they skipped the first round and started with round 2. He wasn't sure what they were going to do this month.

    House rules

Do both the Frontier and Hilton follow the same house rules? (splitting, doubling, surrender, etc.) I read both sets and they don't really say what the house rules are, they just say if there is a question, that house rules apply.
