Be Aware. When I tried to enter, I was advised by Casino Marketing at the Gold Strike this was NOT an open tournament. A minimum amount of play was required, and I did not qualify; because I haven't been to Tunica since the Jan 06 tournaments at the Gold Strike and Sheraton.

    Listed as an Invitational.

In the event schedule the Gold Strike tournament for August is listed as an Invitational tournament.

Earlier today, it was listed as open. I changed it after this post.

I also got an unusual call this morning from someone claiming to be in the security department at the Gold Strike, asking questions about how this event got listed. Very interesting.

    Goldstrike tournament is OPEN

I have just left the Goldstrike and personally talked to Adolph about this tournament. The tournament is open (repeat OPEN) to anyone who wants to spend $500 for an entry fee. This fee will include 2 nights in the Hotel. The confusion apparently comes from the fact that the Goldstrike will not be adding $25,000 to the pool, but instead will fully comp 50 local high rollers into the tournament. Anyone could enter the tournament today by seeing a host. I have just updated the calenday to reflect this.

    Confirmed

I can vouch for the fact it is open. I was there Saturday and talked to a host and they told me it was invitational to high rollers, but it would be open to those willing to pay the $500 entry fee. I asked what level of action was required to get an invitation and she said my 8 hours at $50 a hand was not even close, so I jumped on the chance to buy in before they changed their mind.

Ken, they did ask me how I found out about it and I told them someone had posted it to your website. They acted like it was a big secret since the invitations had not even gone out yet.

The host didn't have a copy of the rules, so don't know anything about the format, but if it is like the old ones, it probably is a hybrid, first round accumulation and semifinals on as elimination. First prize is $50K and I think they said the total pool would be $125K. Will update the event calender when I get more info.

    Gold Strike Tournament

Anybody know how many are expected to be playing in this tourney and what it has taken in the past to be one of the 35 that advances out of the accumulation part?

Using the old Bally's Tunica as a guide...

It is th esame Hybrid format used by the old Bally's Tunica (before Harrah's bought them).

I believe 225 - 250 was the numbers thrown out for the expected number of players.

For the old Bally's the numbers for advancing was bewteen $5350 to $6100 in pass tournaments. Hope this gives you something to go by for this event.

Normally the top 35 players advance and one wild card to the semfinals (6 tables of 6 players) with the only one winner advancing to the finals and then one more wild card for the final table.

All the semifinalist normally receive $500 back in prize money.

No re-buy's or reentries for this event.

Banroll for the 5350 to 6100?

Thanks TEX, Do you recall what was the starting bankroll for each of the two accumulation rounds? Was the range you gave above for the lowest qualifier? What was the range of the 35? Do you recall the betting limits and number of hands in each round?

    Trying to remember

Chips I believe they use to start with $2,000 with a $10 to $1,000 betting limit. The number of hands was 25 (I think), it may have only been 20.

Hopefully we can get on a table with a cold dealer, which is what it takes to advance in this format...LOL
