The Golden Acorn, in Campo, CA (off I-8, about an hours drive east of San Diego) is running its Blackjack Tournament again - after skipping July - it is Saturday, 19 August - registration from 1:30 to 3:00, play starts at 3:00 - prize pool still at $10,000 - buy-ins are $10, Rebuys are $25 - info in event calendar is correct - if you earn enough 'points' through play (buy-ins and advances and final table finishes) - you will get invited to a freeroll in December - where first prize is a Ford F150 pickup - second is $3,000 - need to be in top 84 point totals for year for invite - this is cheap entry for a $10,000 tournament - in June they had 55 players - and wildcarded 4 into the finals - casino put about $7,500 of their own money into the prize pool -

    Golden Acorn

I finally spoke with the correct person in marketing, and posted the format for the tournament in the Event Calendar..

    https://www.blackjacktournaments.com/oldtourn/viewtourn.php?infoID=805&msg=Updated

The most interesting thing about this event is the EV.
With one hundred players, all would have to re-buy 3 times,(the limit), to get close to the prize pool. 100*$10 entry = $1,000...100*3(rebuys)*$25 = $7,500......$8,500 total with 100 players

Also, you can re-buy back into the semi-final.
    Go win some easy money.
Thanks to Barney Stone and Jackaroo for finding my error..

    SWOG -

thanks for correcting and completing the prize pay outs - and the format info -

The $10 entry was supposed to be a special promotion for June only - I am surprized they are keeping it that low - but happy -

The one time I played there (June) - I was not told that you could rebuy in the semi-finals - was told only in qualifying rounds - they limited qualifying rounds to three - as they ran out of players rebuying - then ran off three full tables for semis - then wild carded four people into finals - they may be changing formats some - when I called to talk about the July tournament being canceled - I was told they would be changing format and/or prize pool - then they came out with what appears to be a duplicate of what they had been doing -

    1st is $5,000 - as posted -

$10,000 isn't the biggest tournament - but $10,000 for $10 - or even $25 on the rebuy - is a pretty good bargain - particularly with being short on players - worth a couple hours drive I think -

I will definitely be there in August -

    RKuczek?

Curious with the low bankroll of 200$ and a minimum of 5$, do they use 1$ chips?

No one dollar or $2.5 chips.......BJ is 2 to 1 and no insurance, so they don't need the odd chip.

SWOG got it right - if I remember right - only played once - with low bankroll and no max - expect some of the players to plunge all-in or big bets in the early hands - they will usually keep plunging until they lose out - fortunately -
if there are going to be several players there - anyone interested in getting together for lunch and conversation before the tourney?

    Share time Golden Acorn

Had a great time at the Golden Acorn. No final table but did make semi. Its a hard game because one advance from table of 7. I really liked the 200 chip base. I am very happy with my play and glad I made the 3+ hour drive.

Had a three hour Pow Wow with Ace Donovan and and R Kuczek. A lot of laughs after the tournament and Reachy was a top subject LOL. Without a doubt hope to meet up with them again (Reachy too). Sorry I didnt hook up with napodot.

was fun meeting you and Ace - even if I sucked gas at all my rebuy tables - always another tournament - you guys remember we have a $10,000 in Yuma Aug 31 - starts at 6:00 - same basic format as Golden Acorn - except they don't rotate the button - so if you draw the lucky card - you can claim betting position on every hand - I promise at least one drunk all-in guy at every table -

    Sober all-in guy

It was a good time for sure.

Made the semis again and was at the same table with Barney. Had a decent lead on the second to last hand and it looked like it was going to shape up to be a fun final hand until the, this time sober, all-in guy hit a 2 to 1 blackjack with all his chips in.

That ended it for all of us since nobody could catch him after that payout. Those all-in blackjacks at the end of the game are following me wherever I go. :joker:

It was a fun time though and good meeting Barney and RKuczek (thanks again for dinner).

At least Barney and I did a quick hit and run on a shoe game to pay for the trip right before we left. :D

    Golden Acorn

I made the drive to Golden Acorn at 12 noon. I did not expect the horrible traffic to San Diego on the 5 Freeway. The average speed was 25 MPH !!! The last 58 miles (San Diego to Ocampo) was done in a-traffic-ticket-deserving speed ....

Arrived at Golden Acorn at 4:35 PM (4 and a half hours !!).

I thought I was NOT going to be allowed to play because the tournament started at 3:00 PM - BUT WAS STILL PERMITTED.

Lost the round on the last hand.

    Re-entered.

I was on the last squad prior to the FINALS. Table 4. Seat 7.

On the 15th hand, I bet $305. Was dealt a pair of 2's. The dealer was showing a 6.

I split. On the first 2, was dealt a 9. I doubled for less ($125) because that's all the money I had left. Was dealt a 3. SICKENING .......

On the other 2, was dealt another 9!! With NO MONEY LEFT TO DOUBLE THE HAND WITH - I hit. Was dealt a 2 !!!!

    DOUBLE SICKENING .....

My only hope was for the dealer to BUST with her 6. Needless to say, she managed to accumolate a "17" total hand - hitting twice.:gun:

I was the first one eliminated from the table. Oh well ......

I was the Asian guy wearing a red-blue striped Izod shirt and graying hair...

I tried to read the name tags of the people in the casino area - even though I really had no inkling what names I was looking for. I even tried looking for a 6'2'' person with dirty blond hair ... all I saw was a person on the final table with a clean-groomed blond hair. It would have been nice to met you (Barney Stone), Ace Donovan and R Ruczek.

If you don't already know: here are 2 tournaments you might look into.

1). Casino Pauma BJ Tourney. Entry: $100.00. First Place: $10,000.00. August 26, 2006. at 12 noon. Casino Pauma is close to Pechanga Casino.

2). Wild Horse Pass Casino. Entry: $100.00. First Place is a guaranteed $7,500.00. The Casino is close to Tempe, Arizona. August 29th at 1800.

It's in my schedule to be at the 2 tournaments because I'm still trying to get my FUNDS for the ARUBA tournament.

If you, Ace Donovan and R Ruczek could be/will be there, I'll be wearing a khaki Kentucky Deby baseball hat...

    sorry we missed

    Napodot-

sorry we missed you at Golden Acorn - you should have looked for the small group sitting around telling each other how great we played - but 'we didn't get the cards' on 'the critical hands' and then 'the drunk all in guy got his 2-1 BJ' and the dealer 'drew the 5 to her 14 stiff to beat my soft 18 double down' - and generally dissing the sad/bad play of all the players who beat us - it was great fun -

the Pauma tournament interests me - as I work full time - I look for tournaments I can play on weekends - and this looks like a reachable one - but didn't find the casino on the casino list - can you provide some details? maybe put up a listing for other interested players - I may be able to make it this Saturday -

    Positive Equity

Reason to like this tournament - they filled up 77 players with buy-ins (11 tables of 7 each) - then all other tables were rebuy tables - except for a few late buy-ins like Napodot - they produced 5 finalists from these buy-ins and rebuys - plus two wild cards - buy-ins $10 and rebuys $25 - so - 77 players at $10, 168 rebuys at $25 - total entries collected $4,970 at most - total prize pool $10,000 - very positive equity -
