The Golden Nugget in Laughlin is running two tourneys, one 20 March (Thursday) and one Friday, 21 March. Each tourney has a $10,000 prize pool with $5,000 for first; each has an entry fee of $25. That's all the info I have. I have posted these events to the calendar. Forgot to title the tourney, and tried to list both in the same listing - so have relisted both.

    Easter in Laughlin

I've always thought Easter in Laughlin would be a kind of religous experience. Evidently my sister thinks the same way - as that is her plan - to drag the whole family to Laughlin for Easter - maybe I can take a day off and make the Friday tourney.

Im headed that way to say a prayer or two this weekend, perhaps we can have a service together RK. ;)

I hope the GN didnt plan this for a weekend the Snowbirds have flown home and the regular chain of tourney drivers is short. Sure is a good deal I will miss.

Well I just signed-up this morning. You can represent southern rural AZ, I will represent northern rural AZ.

I see there is also a $49 buy-in roulette tourney at Aquarius. Did we ever figure out if these assorted $49 events are overlays at the AQ?

So do we have a quarum yet for a meet-up?

    quorum

two is a quorum - if Barney shows up - that would be 2 1/2 -

don't know about the Aquarius tourneys - Barney has played the BJ ones -

hopefully we'll see some players make it to Laughlin for these tourneys - $10,000 may not be a lot to many players - but - two back to back -

    GN-L Post Mortem

Well the GN-L had a fine pair of $10k tourneys for the most part. This was their first attempt at one day events and their second at low buy-in tourneys.

Early registration went smoothly with a rules page for everyone. They used computer generated cards for seat assignments. You just picked one randomly and seat one has the button to start.

They used the area of the floor that they use for the slot/VP tourneys. The first day the arrangement of the five tables left some shadows. They used large print playing cards so that helped. The next day the tables had better lighting and they put up the velvet ropes finally.

The dealers did a fine job dealing the face-up double deck game. There were a couple of betting/payoff issues but were resolved quickly. The biggest problem was betting in $10 increments to get the 3/2 Blackjack payoff correct.

I think they sold-out the 120 initial buy-ins and 60 rebuys. I am surprised GN-L didn't plan for more tables/rounds. It probably has to do with their history of $250 entry events where 100-120 players were the norm.

I would suggest that each round have a designated tourney director. Three or four pit bosses were circulating in and out.

I would suggest some more hoopla! There never was a posted prize structure. The one gal at registration said it wouldn't pay the $10k. They didn't talk it up before or after the rounds either.

They did realize the published structure sucked with a wildcard drawn into the 3:15 semi-finals. They changed it to a wildcard to the Final Table and did the semi-final at 2pm. Once again, some posted info would have helped with the format change.

Hopefully we will see another set of low buy-in tourneys in the future.

    GN Laughlin tourneys

these were nice tourneys - sorry I didn't get to talk with you oneeyed - I didn't do any good - in either tourney - misplayed one table at the end - and ran into bad luck at another - if the cards don't mess me up my playing will, I guess - and vice versa -

well run tourneys though for the most - and a lot of fun - pretty weak play, even by my low standards - seemed as if they drew a lot of local players and tourists - only a few players down from Las Vegas - though a couple of good ones showed up -

I do recommend players think seriously about these tourneys if they run them again - for $25 bucks - back to back shots at $10,000 prize pools - and - its Laughlin - so cheap rooms -
