I did the September Blackjack Blitz tourney at GN-L. I picked-up a flyer off a table for this event on my July visit. When I called the (866) 714-4185 number the gal and I were both confused. They answer the phone in Vegas. With dueling tourneys on the same weekend it took my slot card number to actually figure it out. She was trying to get me into the downtown event.

This time around they didn't want a credit card for a buy-in like in March. It appears they comped alot of entrys. I saw some glossy mailers in player's hands. The Friday night (4-6p) registration went smoothly. They started with three Saturday times (9, 9:45, 10:30a) so there was some choice. Early registration for the $50 buy-in got you into a drawing for 5x$50.

They ran six spots/six table sessions, one player advances in the prelims. They did five morning sessions and three afternoon rebuy rounds. You had to rebuy to be in the wildcard drawings. They really hawked this up repeating the requirement often.

So at most they had room for 36x8=288 preliminary spots. If everyone coughed-up $50, that would be $14,400. The flyer stated 120 warm bodies guaranteed the $20k ($10k,5k,3k,1k,500,500). I did not pay attention enough to see if they burned-up all the spots, but the first three sessions were full.

They did a good job once again running the event. The dealers are competant, but they still have to deal double deck face-up and remember the housekeeping stuff. There was a sign stating when the wildcard drawings would be held, but not how many would be pulled. The tourney area was a bit cramped, but the velvet ropes kept the crowds back. They didn't tolerate any coaching.

I won my table on Saturday morning, geting lucky with the second best stack/second to bet going into the last hand. So they ended up with 48 first round winners and drew 12 wildcards for the 10 quarterfinal tables on Sunday morning. This time two advanced into the semi-finals. I had a good seat position if everyone stayed around, but two early busts left me betting second again on the final hand. I stole the low from this spot, but alas a blackjack followed by a dealer bust knocked me out. So 20 advanced and I believe 5 wildcards were drawn for five at five semi-final tables. (Note to self: I need to pay more atttention when I get eliminated.) One wildcard, where everyone was in the drum was drawn for the Final table where they played 30 hands instead of 20.

Anyone else have some more details?

The flyers available for October were for a Texas Hold Em tourney with $77 entry and $7,777 guaranteed. But GN-L does not even deal Poker! This is Oct 11-12 and to be held in Tarzans Lounge. But Tarzans shows the sports games on the best TV set-up on the River and has a sportsbook! It is normally packed for football weekends. They are going to piss off alot of sportsbettors if they go through with this event. And just who is going to deal Poker on the 19 tables listed in the flyer?
