    I'm going!

I am going to the car & cash at the Grand. I actually am buying in because I did not get invited. I haven't played at this casino enough to recieve many offers. I'm not sure how this tourney rates compared to others, but I think this tourney is rather "top heavy" in that the 1st prize is fabulous, but 2nd and so forth are only mediocre payouts.
It should be fun though, and if you got your invitation so your rooms etc., are free...well then, you're already ahead of the game. I have played in about 3 weekend type tournaments, and many smaller tourneys, I've won one third place and one first place in small tourneys.
My best advice is good luck, because it doesn't matter how well you play if your cards stink, or the dealer never breaks!! Also don't be afraid to stray from basic strategy to get more $$ on the table!
Biloxi is great though and you can play in smaller tourneys every day of the week!

Entry fee for this tournament is $250. First prize is the BMW plus $2000 cash. Second prize is $4000 cash. And it goes down from there.

I asked the tournament director how many players were entering and she claimed not to have any idea. She also didn't have any idea on the format, number of rounds, rebuy, or anything else.

Rooms for those nights are $49 per night if you didn't enter the tournament. You get two "meals" included. Assuming this is the buffet bar thats about $20. So we're looking at $120 entry for the tournament.

Without knowing how many players are entering its impossible to determine if this is a good deal or not but since its being spread over two days you can figure its a lot of players. I'm passing on it.

I will play in this tourney, as well. If it is like all the others thay have, it will have a preliminary round, a quarterfinal, semifinal, and final round. One advances per round, and a rebuy round is normal for $149.00. You will have $2500 in chips with a $5-$2500 spread, and a 'catch 22 card' where you get your bet back if you get 22 (one time only). 20 hands.

You can enter for $149, if you don't want the rooms, or $249 with the rooms. 2 meals included (not buffets).

They say they are not getting much response for this tourney (probably because of the prize structure being so top heavy this time). If they take in more than the advertised prize money, they add it in.

I need the car, so I decided to play...;)

When I checked, rooms for saturday nite were $199 and sunday were $59. I don't get comps there yet, so for me it's not too bad a deal...

are you sure about the $149 if you don't want a room?? I asked how much if my husband wanted to play and they said still $249!! They would get better response if it were cheaper for a second person to enter...

    Best game in Biloxi?

Ok, I actually didn't realize it was a weekend tournament. Entry fee is a good deal for a weekend room. I think I'll sign up.

What's the best blackjack game in town to pass the time by with?

If a $25 or $50 minimum is no problem, the Beau Rivage game is probably the best in town. I also hear good things about Treasure Bay these days.

iI played the Grand, same tournament, in Feb '04, did not need a room and was allowed a $149 entry fee.

    Palkie,

If they have extra rooms, they may say you have to get a room with the signup, but when I signed up, I didn't have to get the room (but I had to ask)

This is weird since a local friend of mine recently WANTED to get a room with the tourney and they wouldn't let him have a room!

Ask for Troy in the Host Office in Biloxi. He helped me. (Day shift, I think).

Just spoke to VIP services. They have no rooms available for Sunday but had rooms for Saturday. When asked about the $149 entry fee without a room she had no idea what I was talking about and wouldn't lower the $249 entry fee since they just had a room available for Saturday.

My feeling is if you don't play there they don't do much to accomodate you. And I'm not going to play there with shufflemasters, no surrender, and very poor penetration.

    Grand Tourney - justlsuteddy/casino_jim

Yes - apparently, who you talk to at VIP services makes a BIG difference! You must've gotten the same girl who told me $249 entry - room or not! I already had a reservation for Sunday, so I guess I squeaked into the tourney with a room. They just changed my reservation to be under the tournament fee. My husband says he won't play in this one, but we'll both play in some of the smaller weeknight tourneys since we're staying til Thursday.

I stayed at the Grand in March because we liked the Tunica Grand last year, but I agree, the Biloxi Grand doesn't have great games.

justlsuteddy - If you're still going, I liked the President (now Silver Slipper?) Casino for low stakes, decent rules. $5 min - pitch, double deck, ddas, etc. - but this was during the week, and I don't know if the new management has changed things.

Maybe you should talk to Troy like casino_jim says get the $149 fee and book your room somewhere else - like the President! Good luck whatever you decide!!

casino jim - since you need that car, I'll SELL it to you when I WIN!! hahaha!
    seriously, good luck to you!

    update

I just played at the Grand Biloxi tonight (Thur.) in their 3-card tourney and talked to the tourney people who talked to the Host people, and this is the latest.

They have no rooms as of now, but hope to have some by Saturday, and it WILL be $249.00 to enter the tourney with or without rooms, BUT when you actually go to PAY for your registration on Saturday at noon, and you don't have a room, you will only have to pay $149.00.

When I signed up, they gave me the $149 rate right off the bat. They now quote $249 period. Troy won't be of any help, for this came from the Anti- Marketing Department.

Again to clarify. Sign up for the tourney by calling in, and either get a room or not for $249.00, then when you pay up on Saturday, they will reduce the cost $100.00 if you don't have a room, or if you want to give up the room you do have. The cost will be $149.00.

    Go figure.

By the way, I think there were about 50 spots left. Not counting no shows, which will be many, I'm sure.
