It's ready. Read my take on the recent Grand Casino Tunica disaster in a post at the BlackjackInfo Blog.
There's a little of everything: Incompetence, arrogance, and barred players...

    unbelievable

    read your blog entry

    this makes no sense what-so-ever

what really blew me out was their making people wanting rebuys 'walk around' -

I honestly think that gambling is such a lucrative business for the casinos that they can put the biggest idiots in the world in charge - and no matter how they screw it up - they'll still make money and claim to be 'good businessmen'

unfortunately - between the small number of major casino companies, the fact that the big companies run many of the indian casinos - the insularity of tribal gaming - and the fact that the politicians are sucking at the teat of the giant cash cow of gambling (good imagery here? or what!) - the casinos can do whatever they please - no matter how stupid, unfair, or even actually illegal - and pretty much get away with it -

maybe we need to start up a 'good casino / bad casino' listing - and advocate boycotting the 'bad' ones

    No Grand For Me

Sorry about your disaster Ken. I've never been to Tunica but have been talking to Rick about a trip there for a while now. I guess the Grand is out of question. Maybe I'll get there soon for a tourney at a different casino.

You do so much to promote blackjack tourneys and have promoted the Grand tourney. I guess they don't get it "that you never bite the hand that feeds you".

See you in a few weeks on the cruise and I'm looking forward to meeting your family, thrasht

Good grief, what a circus! Being big and successful doesn't give companies like Harrah's license to be incompetent and downright mean. But that's human nature - absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Ken, keep plugging away. Your blog should be an article in Casino Player. Don't let them get away with it.

    Question?

The fiasco that occurred at the Grand in Tunica is a Harrah’s property. Harrah’s owns other properties there, in particular the Horseshoe that has an upcoming BJT in July that I have been contemplating attending.

When I played at the Horseshoe I did not encounter any difficulties and in fact a "mistake" occurred at the semi-final table at the Horseshoe event. After the announced the 49 players and their totals the tournament director made an announcement that, "if anyone feels their scores were higher than XXXX please let us know before we start."

In fact a lady did have a higher score that was recorred incorrectly. The Tournament director was placed in a difficult position and informed the #49 person that there was a mistake and that they in fact didn't not qualify for the semi-final round.

However to make good that person, Bubble Boy, was allowed to keep the $500 chip for "sitting" at the semi-final table. I personally thought it was a nice touch and gave a thumbs up to the Horseshoe and their staff.

Now, after reading about the treatment at the Grand, a sister Harrahs property I have some concerns and I am seriously reconsiderng traveling to Tunica to play.

What occurred at the Grand is this systematic of the Harrah’s properties and should I be concerned about a similar fiasco at the Horseshoe?

Interesting question. It seems to me that each property has their own way of running tournaments - they seem to be, in effect, independent of each other as far as tournaments are concerned. There doesn't seem to be any overriding guidelines that all properties must comply with. Now, no organization has a monopoly on bad tournaments. They are all over the place. So if you like a particular tournament then "go for it" irregardless of who owns the casino.

On a separate note. fgk42, you mentioned August as the Horseshoe-Tunica tournament. I believe you meant July. Wouldn't want you showing up in August and have nothing to do but play slots. ;) :D :joker:

    grand

I BELIEVE THE OVERALL PICTURE IS THAT YOU ARE RIGHT THAT THE HARRAHS CASINOS TOURNAMENTS ARE RAN INDEPENDENTLY OF OTHER PROPERTIES
MY EXPERIANCE AT THE HORSESHOE IN SHREVEPORT IS WELL RUN TOURNAMENT AND WELL ORGANIZED- SO WITH THAT SAID YOU GO TO THE HORSESHOE IN TUNICA AND PLAY THE TOURNAMENT BUT I AM SURE THERE WILL BE FEELING OF TOURNAMENT EMPLOYEES MAY BE WALKING ON EGGSHELLS

ALSO THIS NOT ALL ABOUT THE GRAND TOURNAMENT-THIS ALSO ABOUT HOW THE MISSISSIPPI MONEY MAN AND WIFE AND CHILD WERE TREATED BY SECURITY AND THREATENED BY SECURITY AND MANAGEMENT(SUITS IF YOU WILL)AND THIS COULD HAPPENED TO ANY OF US AT ANY TIME -ADVANTAGED PLAYER OR NOT:flame: :flame:

    No Class

I am so sorry Ken for your shortcomings in this tournament. Come on out to the sunny West Coast and enjoy the Pacific Ocean and casinos out this way. The entire tournament was screwed up before it started with the false promises of the buy-in fees. You really need to go to the Gaming Comission and pick up that particular issue of "Jackpot" and protest. This is absurd and non-excusible. My question. Can a perspective gambler sue for such false information? It would be nice. You keep going Ken and you'll have your revenge soon. I mean, very soon.

    Pressure

Good for you Ken. Keep the pressure on these clowns. For goodness sakes, the Casino Industry takes money from some of the most beautiful blackjack players in the world. Why should we back down from such a greedy class of CEO's and CFO's as this one? Just keep putting it down Ken and us true blackjack fanatics. Peace...
