Harrah's World Series of Gaming

Discussion in 'Blackjack Events (USA)' started by kelly_c_ritter, Jan 2, 2008.

  1. The Harrah's casinos in Atlantic City will supposedly be running a series of
four gaming tournaments with guaranteed $100,000 first prizes on the following dates:

January 18,19 is a blackjack tournament at Harrah's AC
February 8,9 is a roulette tournament at Caesar's AC
March 7,8 is a craps tournament at Bally's Park Place
April 25,26 is a blackjack tournament at Showboat.

The Harrah's website describes these tournaments as each having a $500 buy-in and a $20 entry fee. I'm guessing that this really means a $520 entry fee
with $500 of that nominally going to the prize fund, but it is ambiguous.

Given the previous abysmal track record of Harrah's trying to run table game tournaments in AC, I think it likely that these tournaments won't happen.

    Real

This is real i work for harrahs and if anyone needs a room email i can book you

  4. Info is on Harrah's website

Just go to www.harrahs.com, click on Harrah's AC icon, click on the WSOG icon. I'm still trying to get more information on this. The format seems to be a hybrid one. You play a session on each of the 18th and 19th,
and your best score counts. The best 49 scores advance to the semis which I believe are table elimination. If they get fewer than 200 entrants, this becomes a winner take-all $100k tournament. You are indeed playing with funny money chips, so I was correct in my belief that $500 of the $520 you pay goes towards the prize fund.

Let me be the first to say thank you VERY much for taking the time to post all of this information.
This is the sort of thing that helps us decide whether we'd like to attend an event - or not!

Hitmeonemoretime thanks for the information, but is the prize money for making it into the top three in multiple events guaranteed as well.

Also I noticed that you want the players to sign-up one hour proir to the starting on the event. You may want to re-think that idea unless you have a lot of staff for regestration.

At 3 players every minute signing up with 3 staff members, you would only get 180 players (6 per table)or 210 (7 per table) signed up and I noticed you listed up to 799 players.

Also no re-buys? Another idea that should be re-thought out. You'll cost yourself a lot of money for the prize pool, besides losing players that won't travel for a one time shot in a high score advancing format.

Just helpful suggestion, I'd love to see these events succeed.

    Just a couple of comments:

    1) The BONUS money appears to also be guaranteed. In post #6 of this thread:
Now maybe I'm reading this wrong but it seems to me the BONUS money is also guaranteed.

    2) Re-Buys:
I think what hitmeonemoretime meant is either A) that after all sessions of round one are completed, there are no re-buys or B) that there is no reduced rate if a player wants to enter a second time in round 1. It seems to me that a player can enter a second session (space permitting) of round one if he is not satisfied with his score from his first sitting. I've played in other tournaments like this and there is no reason why the casino would want to stop a player from entering a second time.

    3) No advance reservation:
The main problem I see for out-of-towners is that apparently they cannot pre-register to reserve a seat. This would seem to discourage a player that lives say over 200 miles away from going to the tournament. I would hate to take the time to go plus the cost of air travel and hotel room only to find out that there are no more seats available.

On the positive side, its good to have open tournaments this size and I hope they are a success.

Toolman, I understand they are offering a guarantee as posted on #6 for each event. I just want to clearify that the bonus listed in post #6 is for the bonus on post #7 for the multiple wins (see below).
My concern is what if there is a low turnout for these events and they get canceled, thus ending the chances to win one of the above bonus prizes. I just wouldn't want to invest the money on trips and entries only to have it changed due to low attendance (such as the resent LVH million dollar event).

As for the re-buys or re-entries, I suggested thay add them because it was posted at the bottom of post #6 (NO-REBUYS). My post was just my opinion on ways to try and improve these events for both the players and casinos.

I also wound like to see a written guarantee about all the events being "OPEN" to all players from Harrah's and a clause put it stating that all players will be allow to play at all the casinos for these events. So far no posts about the events being opened from Harrah's, the only mention of an open event was in the last sentence on your post. I don't want to assume that they are open, I want to know that they are. Sorry but Harrah's track record for banning players is not the best in the business, just ask Ken about the Tunica Grand event last year!

I just want all the bases covered to protect the players.
If there isn't a problem they shouldn't have a issue with any of my above requests.

We both agree that these events will be great for tournament players should they be successful and again I hope they are.

We're on the same page, Tex.

I assumed there events are open for 2 reasons:
    1) Nothing was said to the contrary.
2)This statement by hitmeonemoretime: "OUR GOAL IS TO BRING THE AWARENESS OF A BIGGER AND BETTER TABLE GAMES PRODUCTS, TO ATTRACT NEW BUSINESS"

But of course nothing has been said that can be considered "set in stone". I'd like to have hitmeonemoretime address the issues you and I raised.

I'll thank you again for providing the information that you could. Perhaps you might take the very good questions to someone in your organization who could answer them? It'd make you look good to those above you in the organization, plus help create more entries for the tournaments. GOOD LUCK! :D

    Back to square one

Well, all the assumptions I made are now invalid. I too appreciate the information supplied by a Harrah's marketing person but unfortunately his wording may not be in exact compliance with how the tournament will be run.

Hitmeonemoretime, thank you for your reply (both here and by PM). I wasn't trying to cause trouble, I just wanted to know all the rules before going or having any other members travel up there and be disapointed.

My Harrah's comment (though with some merit) isn't 100% correct. Each Harrah's casino is independently run and it is up to each location who they allow and don't allow to play in their events. I was told this from Harrah's Corp. offices in Las Vegas.

This is part of why I ask the question about being allowed to play at all 4 of the casinos.

I, along with all the other members thank you for posting the information you did. Hopefully the questions I asked will soon be adressed as well from someone for all 4 of the AC casinos.
