I talked with Global-Player today and they wanted me to tell everybody hello and that they missed all the US players. Since the new internet laws went into effect, it has cause them to stop hosting tournaments, however they are still in operation and about to change software. Soon they will be offering more games including poker (however not for the US players). For those of you who use to play Global-Player, stop by and see their new site and if you have a chance call or e-mail them to say hi.
A sad tale Tournaments continued for a while, but obviously with a very reduced player pool. More often than not, scheduled events had to be cancelled due to lack of numbers. Inevitably in this situation, people stop showing up because in all likelihood they won't get a game, and you get into a vicious circle of fewer people each week. The Sit & Gos suffered also. It became rare to get five players looking for a game at the same time, even during happy hour. 1on1 games were more frequent. The race to be in the weekly top three became a bit of a farce (albeit a profitable one for a time). I think I managed to come top one week by playing and winning just a single five-player table, the only one to take place during that entire week. And two particular individuals clearly worked out how to exploit the situation by colluding in the 1on1s, taking it in turns to dominate the leaderboard. One of them would deliberately lose several games to the other (during happy hour so it didn't even cost them any vig). So it wasn't entirely a surprise when all tournaments disappeared during March. There was no warning though, which was a bit shoddy. Similarly, no warning when scheduled tournaments (but not Sit & Gos) reappeared in April. A few of us turned up for these, but again cancellation was the norm. And nobody from Global was in the chat room to oversee things. On the most recent occasion the tournament did actually start, with one table playing and four of us waiting on the second table. After the first table completed Tourbot announced that the tournament was cancelled! :flame: That was pretty much the death knell for tournaments at Global. I'd have thought the best approach would have been to drop the scheduled events and keep the Sit & Gos (without the weekly top-three payouts), rather than the other way round. I got an email saying they were switching over to Boss software. No mention of what was happening to tournaments, but it seemed implicit that they were being dropped again. It's all very sad. Global have obviously been hit hard by the loss of US players, but the lack of communication with those of us that can still play hasn't helped the situation. There. A rant against a casino other than Bet21!
