    T-Minus 90 days and counting...

thanks for the interest. i think i may have mentioned this in the interview Swog just did with me for the site, but i'm not sure...

bottom line is, i've been done with my first book 'Hollywood Blackjack' for 6 months or so, its been in editing and layout over at RGE and they should announce an official release date shortly, most likely this September. You can check the website there for updates: www.rge21.com

this first book is not a tourney book, but rather a completely uncensored look at card counting & camouflage, with plenty of behind-the-scenes material on a lot of my experiences gambling in front of the camera as well as live play in casinos. The language is definately R-rated, so don't give this one to your mama! ;)

my tourney book 'Hollywood Blackjack: ATS' presents what i consider to be an end-all, be-all Advanced Tournament Strategy, and should be out early next year...hopefully i can beat Ken Smith to the punch and for a few short months hold the reigns as 'tourney book guru'!

    When's Ken's book out?

Can't wait for both of your tomes Hollywood. We need more TBJ strategy books and I understand you see it as an update on Wong's CTS?

But hey Ken, when's your book out? I guess it's a strategy book? Tell us more? Do we have to wait a year?

    Cheers

I was hoping to have my manuscript done by late summer. I don't know if I'll make that target or not, but I'm trying.

    Gender-Neutral

    Hollywood

I saw a big debate on another site about using the phrase he/she when writing books about Blackjack and other casino games.

Rick Swogger asked this question to Stanford Wong (see interview on this site) and he is apparently now writing in a "Gender-Neutral" style.

What line did you take when you were editing your books (did the publisher advise you or make any recommendations) and do you think it really makes any difference to the readers?

Same question for you and others who are writing books etc.

I agree with swog. I find the use of he/she in written material to be annoying. I'm using good ol' sexist 'he', when a phrase can't be stated in a way that eliminates the use of the pronoun.

    Ohhhhhh, Bad Mojo.......

Using he/she in written word is a direct result of today's society's need for political correctness. Proper ettiquette actually dictates when addressing a mixed gender audience, you should use masculine pronouns. It's a basic english comp rule- the same in most languages. So I think Ken's mojo is safe.

    error of omission

actually, its funny you bring that up, as it was a tiny detail that became a serious source of vexation for me throughout the process of writing! in the end, i just found ways of rewriting most of the sentences to avoid having to refer to the reader in this way, which was sometimes more difficult than i anticipated. in those cases, i would use the pronoun 'one' instead of 'he/she' or ultimately, just referred to my readers as jagoffs, jerkoffs, or my personal favorite: fuckers. As in, "you fuckers better listen up!"

hey, its not subtitled 'an uncensored guide to doing it like a pro' for no reason! ;)

    frame that post!

at last, after 2 1/2 years of posting here, my evil plan has come to fruition: Ken Smith has finally uttered a gratuitous curse word in a post!! first ken smith, next -- the world!

    (insert evil laugh here)

Can you swear at the tables?

What level of swearing is allowed at the tables of casinos? Just curious really. Can you say that word that Ken just said (*blushes*) or would you get kicked out? Does it depend on whether the rest of the table is bothered by swearing or not?

    Cheers you ****e**!!
