I received this email today from Hooters:

    Dear Webmaster,

Today, we received a complaint from one of your subscribers. He said that he came to Vegas to play in a BJ Tournament at our hotel, because your website posted this information. All of the tournaments at Hooters Casino Hotel are by invitation only and based upon past gaming activity.

Since your site is for members only, we cannot see what information is posted. We would ask that you either remove the information about our tournament from your website or denote that our tournaments are by invite only.

This guest was extremely disappointed that he could not participate in this event. It is misfortunate that he can all the way to Las Vegas to play in an event that he thought he could buy-in. Thank you so much for your help in assuring that this does not happen again in the future.

    Sincerely,

I've changed this event's listing to invitational, but I wanted to use this as an example that it is always important to contact the casino before heading to play an event if you aren't sure of the details.

The Event Calendar is a tremendous resource here, made possible by the continued support of all of you. Just be aware that no listing will ever be completely accurate, and take that into account when you make your plans.

    In Ken's defence

Ken offers all of us a location to come checkout up coming events. Members post most of these events with limited information from the casinos.

I for one appreciate all the players who list the up coming events and don't blame anyone for wrong information. I even have a link from the TBJPA.com site over to Blackjacktournaments.com Event Calendar.

It is the player’s responsibility to contact the casino them self before traveling to any event. It is up to the players to get the correct information; it isn't up to Ken to have confirmed every tournament posted on the event calendar.

Hooters seem to jump to the same conclusion the player who came to their event did. I feel both the player and Hooters were wrong and blaming Ken, he did nothing wrong.

need to keep the events calendar updated and accurate -

that's how we share info on when/where/what for upcoming tournaments - and - that helps increase attendence - which benefits all of us -

if you know of tournaments in your area - please get accurate info and post - takes only a little time - and don't hesitate to update events if you have additional info or know there are errors or ommissions -

special plea - anyone knowing of tourneys in Phoenix/Tucson/Southern California - I would greatly appreciate seeing these events listed and kept current -

I don't think Hooters was trying to do anything other than pass along the frustration that the player experienced. I can also think of a likely scenario for how this may have happened.

Let's say I'm headed to Vegas, and I see that event listed. I drop by Hooters, figuring it is possible that this event was invitational, but just to see if I can get in. It would be easy to bolster my case while talking to the tournament staff if I tell them "Oh, I traveled out here to play, thinking it was open because it was listed at BJT."

Is that what happened here? I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me.

In any event, I'm not at all upset with Hooters. I'm glad they contacted me. And, please don't let this dissuade anyone from sharing tentative tournament dates with limited information. This event was actually a pretty good example, since the only provided information was the date, and a note that it came from a list of upcoming events. With such minimal information, I feel pretty sure that almost anyone would call ahead for details before booking travel.

So, carry on, and keep up all the helpful posts to the calendar.

I sincerely doubt anyone was dumb enough to travel to Vegas without contacting the casino and getting details on the tournament ...even if it was open to all it very well could have been sold out.

I think the complainer was trying to get a sympathy entry... nothing more....or else they are one of the dumbest people on earth...

The list is always subject to error ...its certainly the travelers responsibility to check with the casino.

No fouls for the list and no fouls for Hooters except for being too short sighted to hold open events...
