How much would you risk?

I would like to know what is the maximum entry fee is that players would be prepared to risk on an internet game given the possibility of disconnection and unforeseen distractions.
I got through to the second round on Fridays $40 Cruise Tournament only to be kicked off and unable to re-enter the casino.
Consequently I did my money in, but would like to point out that the fault was at my end and had nothing to do with Global (I’m so honest…lol).
Most of us have suffered from the above and it appears to be an accepted part of playing tournaments on the net, but as other sites and bigger games develop what is the most money you would pay for a game?

    Risk versus reward

I think it all depends on how reliable your internet connection is. I have a cable modem and it probably is 99% reliable so I would not worry about getting disconnected so it would not affect my decision to risk the entry fee. The entry fee amount depends on the EV for the tournament.

The only thing you need to do before playing online for lots of money is to be sure you understand how to work the software properly and how to reconnect if you do get booted off for some reason. The times I have gotten booted is when I accidently closed the wrong window in the middle of a game. (That was due to trying to play to many tables at once). Fortunately I was able to reconnect, but it taught me not to attempt to many tasks at the same time.

    On line investment;

    Droogie:

I too got booted from the Friday event. It too was on my end. It's cable modem and hadn't been a problem till the beginning of the month. Should have known on my end not to venture till I knew the connection would stay. Seems our comcast added phone service along their cable and would no longer accept any resistence. The phone service was now sucking up all extra spill over. No room for error anywhere along the line.

In the past I've played some moderately hefty poker tourneys without a qualm.

    Willing to Risk More!!!

Andy, I would be willing to risk $100-200 entry fees occasionally for a bigger prize pool. I don't even think twice about putting out more money then that for land based tournaments. When I joined Global last November I tried to get into the $30 and $50 sit 'n go's but never could get a game. The $15 sit 'n go's are great fun. For $15 enty fees it's more about winning then the prize money (for me anyway). I fully understand that some folks might disagree with me and think the money is more important (off topic!!). As the entry fees go up, the tables start to turn and the money becomes almost as important (winning is still great). I've won a few cruise and Wedn. tournaments with first prize being in the $900 range and it sure felt good to win those. I would be willing to risk even more for larger prize pools, though I would only want to play those on-line tournaments on maybe a monthly basis. Hopefully this answers your question.

I've been booted off global a few times but have always been lucky enough to get back on. I have AOL dial-up and have been pleased with it the last few years. I've been on AOL for about 12 years and they have really gotten better over the years. Thrasht

    $30 & $50 Games

    Thrasht,

When the sit ‘n’ go’s where first introduced on Global Casino a few players did enter the $30 and $50 games.

At that time the players tended to organise it through invitation on the chat to see how many people would be interested, but the games soon dropped off. I am sure that if you wanted a bigger game and asked in the chat after the Cruise or Wednesday tournaments you would get the occasional game on.

Like Pat and Noman I didn’t have any net connections problems until recently. However, when it does happen to you it makes you think of the risk.

    Bill Gates didn't help

After suffering from various computer problems recently and after receiving stronger warnings from Microsoft about having unlicensed software I finally gave in and decided to pay up.

What amused me was that as soon as I had paid the £92 owing, Bill Gates announced his retirement (Was it really his final act to get that Andy956 from the UK to part with some money for using his product for free).

Anyway, even becoming licensed didn’t solve the problems so beware before you buy the Windows Advantage kit. If you don’t know what I mean then that’s good because you will be legal. If you do know what I mean then you will probably be running a counterfeit version.

After watching Soozziec get disconnected tonight from the Wednesday final tournament table I suggest that she does what I did to remedy any problems.

Take the computer back to the shop and get it fixed.

Andy (up and running again) I hope.

    Droogie Fee:

Sorry to hear it was you who forced Gates into retirement with your payment putting him over the top.

For the last two months I thought it was you buggering my computer and connection.

But there is a pattern emerging. Blackjack players must be posing national security risks and the snoops' programs, hacking and monitoring us are malfunctioning and actually interferring with our quaint hobby.

They must have borrowed HAL from Global.
