Ken can read minds at the tournament table. I know. I've had it done to me... ;)

madison711, It's always nice to meet another member, even if they're the enemy at the time! ;)

I continued my streak of semifinals, but my success ended there. I never really had a shot at my semifinal table. A couple of players managed to double their starting stack before I started chasing. I pushed one max bet, and lost the next to pretty much end my effort.

I've made 4 semifinal rounds in my last 6 tournaments. No finals though.

At the IP, I knew at least three of the finalists although I hear none of them won it. At the final table were Jim Pierce, John Leland, and Joe Alex. Nicely done guys!

Ken It was exciting as always, it really get my heart rate up. See you again soon I hope.

    Thanks, Madison 711

  6. Sorry you had to chase Ken. I told you my first round chase story after the wild card drawing so I got a little taste of that frustration too. At least I made the final table at the Hard Rock weekly Sunday night for a whole lot less money than was at stake at the IP.

    Tournament rules

I have played in the weekly Blackjack Tournaments at the Hard Rock in Biloxi, Mississippi a few times. I have had some success making it to the semifinals three times and the final table once (finished 3rd). Question, What are the rules for the IP turnament? I know, for example, the Hard Rock will allow a max bet of any amount and they do not offer surrender. :(

It seems every time I play at the Hard Rock there are always players trying to hide chip behind glasses and not stacking their chips by color. I will sometimes wait until the dealer asks for my bet and reply with something like I will make my bet as soon as the player at third base lets me see all of his/he chip. Does this ever happen to anyone? If so, what if anything do you say?

    The IP rules:

    Betting is $25 to $5000 from a $5000 bankroll.
(Much better than the Hard Rock's no-max.)

30 hand rounds, count after 25th hand. In the semifinal and final they also count after 15 hands.
6D, Hit soft 17, Double after split, resplit aces.
No surrender. (Unfortunately, no place nearby offers surrender in tournaments, even Beau Rivage where surrender is available on the regular game.)

In the recent event, it was 1 advance in the first round, 2 in the 2nd round, and 1 in the semifinal. There were 360 players approximately.

For your question about players hiding their chips, I've copied your post into this second thread, to get more replies:

    Thanks Ken

Thanks for the information Ken. I don't know why casinos don't put their rules for blackjack tournaments on their websites. I have called the Beau and Island View before trying to get information about the rules for their tournaments and no one could give any information about the format. Maybe I just haven't talked to the right person.

    Slop Fest

    BC,

I have played the HR tournament 3(?) times in about 2 years. It's sloppy, IMO. Players can be raucus and drunk. The same locals play it, I believe, and seem to make lots of remarks making it hard to concentrate. It's small, but they may be teaming up, splitting wins etc... Just suspicion on my part. A good player can probably block out the noise, afterall, it's a small tournament. The dealer/pit just doesn't seem to control the atmosphere.

Naturals pay 2:1, I believe. My rating for thie one is "Sloppy". If you know others that play tourneys, I advise you have each other's back. Just keep an eye out for one another during and after the tournament. Drunks do dumb things and the pit is lax.

    Rules

Although rules change, is there a way to scan and post the rules of past tournaments. Could this be a copyright problem? Probably better for us to just post the important items?
