I just got this e-mail from "Global". Did anyone else receive it and what do you think about it? I have no idea why and I don't really want to send any of my personal information to strangers out of the country. Even in this country for that matter. If it is true I may not be playing at Global much longer!

Is this for real? For Real.

fgk42, droogie gave good references. Question now. Do you want to fall in line, or not. Maybe we let 100 others let us know if it's worthwhile. Yoda said he had to do it on other sites too. Always trust Yoda content.

Personally, my, our congressman can't, won't do anything, unless they get some money out of it. That's why all these sites were off U.S. shore.

Could it be the electronic surveillance to catch terrorists and scoflaws?

I dunno know. But first it was Yuma, Dodge, Tombstone, Deadwood.

Now, indeed, it is a Brave New World.

    Belated P.S.

For some reason, Global won't or doesn't E-mail me. I'm holding future deposits till I'm in the know.

    Andy,

Thanks for the links. My reply to my congressman:

F U. And we Know what that means. I contributed over 5 digits to the election campaign in 1999. I got so many invites it wasn't funny. They made me feel so darn important.

Then a nasty divorce (see War of the Roses) hit me, along with the ex. Suddenly the donations weren't there for the candidates because of the lawyers :flame:

Suddenly my letters and calls went unanswered. Once the donations stopped flowing so did the invites and the welcome phone calls. Instead of being put thru I was put on HOLD.

I currently have NO interest in politics as I believe they are ALL crooks. I'm so disenfranchised that I've even looked at moving to Costa Rica. (hey maybe I can set up some servers there!)

Now, I'll get off my soapbox and politely ask, has anyone else gotten this e-mail from Global? I don't intend to reply and give them the information. If they kick me off - so be it there are numerous other sites. My interest was is it real of a scam?

Not a scam. Yoda posted he didn't like it, but it's a minor irritant. Let's see where is leads.

I have stated that contacting a POL is worthless since to avoid US law and taxes the gaming sites are off shore.

The brainiacs haven't figured out how to asses sales tax on internet purchases yet, so their foray into the gaming area seems a long way away.

Homever, when they do get their fingers in the pie, you can be sure, it'll be transformed into a cow chip.

And, a long time ago, G. Gordon Liddy(no respect or admiration here, but a recognition of a real pro in such matters) recommended Belize. That's my Nirvana.

    Frozen Funds

Well this e-mail WASN’T a joke. I went to withdraw some money from my Global Account (via Neteller) and was informed that they (Global) will NOT release my funds until I comply with their regulations requiring that I send them a photo ID, street address and birthdate.

Lucky for me the amount of money is not that great. In fact I spend more than that every year paying to protect my identity.

I urge all people to be careful about this. I for one will NOT let someone in Antigua have my sensitive information and photo ID. In fact I am going to forward this request to my congressman (like that will do anything) because the people at Global could use this information to construct Passports and use my stolen photo and ID to support their terrorists!

    Here's the e-mail

Did they mention this when I made a DEPOSIT just two days earlier? NO.

BOYCOTT GLOBAL. Try making a withdraw and see what happens to your account!

They gotta do what they gotta do. Stick around and keep playing these games! I think we still see regular old tournament play that wont be just like UBT so keep some faith man! You need to stay sharp on regular tournament play. If I were going to boycott Global it would be because of their shuffling mechanism, I dont get how it can spit out that ratio of cards!

BTW, I only deposit enough money to play x amount of games. At global I can make it thru three more tournaments after getting spanked for 100$ Wednesday. That is unless I get spanked by the low count crew on the 15$ games a few times! JUst say no Barn just say NO! :joker:

Barney, I mean Mr. Stone I presume

My problem with Global is their policy regarding giving me BACK my money. If I had KNOW ahead of time that I would have to provide sensitive information to a casino, not in this country and bound by US laws, I would NEVER have done it.

    They want the following:
    1. Photo ID
    2. Address
    3. Birthdate
    4. Government ID - Drivers License.

With information like that identity theft is just a few short key strokes away. I had to put up with identity theft in the past - had my wallet stolen and it took me a LONG time to get it straightened out. I will not do that again.

As far as regular tourney's - there is always BJ21.com. I'll just be there for tourney's only - like last night.

    I can see both sides...

I can clearly see fgk42 concerns about giving up his personal information, but I can also see Global-Players concern and the regulations that require them having that information.

I actually feel better knowing Global-Player is taking this action to assure that the proper person withdrawing funds is who they say they are. Just think how easy it would be to laundry money over seas without any control.

Actually I am more concerned now with the sites that don't use as much security for their customers.

fgk42, I to have had funds taken from my accounts (in fact I am working on get over $10,000 back from Chase bank from this pass year), this is one of the reasons you haven't seen BigTex online that much.

This is really a Catch 22; I can see both sides have valid points.

    Global requirements

Actually, this first surfaced months ago when I attempted to make a withdrawal. I asked a couple of players privately what to do about it (similar concerns about giving up private information) and decided that by sending them a copy of my driver's license with DL# blacked out, I really wasn't divulging any info that they didn't already have. They accepted my ID, and I haven't had a problem with making a withdrawal since.

    Thank Gflan

After reading Gflans post, I think that is more than fair way to control the withdrawals.

Showing a picture ID (without having to give any ID number out) seems fair to me. As she pointed out they already have your other information (address and phone number).

Thanks Gflan (beter known as Luckygem - Queen of the online tournaments) and winner of the first cruise tournament this year and the ONLY player to make all three finals on the cruise.

I've thought about that but why a picture ID when I didn't need one to make a deposit?

They also want my birthdate and that makes me uncomfortable.

What irks me more than anything is the ease in which they take the deposits - never asked for anything - but the difficulty in getting my winnings!

On BJ21.com I called and BAM they deposited the money no problem.

    Maybe I'm just too jaded.

    Actually...

I had two credit card payments to blackjack21.com turned down only for they to go through about a week later without anyone contacting me.

Back to Global-Player, if giving your DOB bothers you just give them the wrong date...LOL, all they want is something to comfirm with you for withdrawals from their site so what problems would the wrong DOB cause you any where else?

Just black you DOB along with you ID number when you send it. Just an idea, but it's worth a try anyway.

    Good Idea

    Hey TX,

Thanks for the ideas. I'll fax these over to them and see what happens:

In fact these ARE photo ID's - Just not mine :joker:

Of course they DO bear a striking resemblance
