Has anyone played in the Island View tournaments on Thursdays? I am down at Gulf Shores and am planning to check out the casinos this afternoon and probably try to play the tournament this evening. If anyone has information about start times, format etc, info would be appreicated.

If you plan to attend, I will have my red shirt on and have my son in law with me (bald guy) so just come say hello.

    Good tournament

BJ Beauty and I played the 3CP tournament there last week. I've played it several times before, both BJ and 3CP. You need to get there about 30 minutes ahead of the announced registration time - if you want to get in the first round and buy a rebuy. They fill up quckly, and rebuys are usually bought early - rarely are they available after the first round. If you win the first round and have a rebuy - you can't give it away or sell it. The seat goes empty. There are 3 first rounds, a semis and a final. One wildcard is drawn before the final table. Stick around - once I left early and my name was drawn!

The tournament director runs a tight ship - and the dealers are very helpful.

    Good luck!

    Rules for tournament

Attached are the rules for this tournament which I picked up.

Items to note. First of three preliminary rounds begins at 6:00, semifinals played at 9:00 and finals after semifinals completed. I think you can buy into all three rounds in advance if you wish, or hope a rebuy is available after the 6:00 or 7:00 round. I don't think there were any 8:00 seats still for sale after the 7:00 round because the buyin desk was gone.

Entry fee is noted as $25 with optional $5 dealer toke for extra 500 in chips. It says that the toke is optional, but it seemed like they collected it when signing up unless you specifically said you didn't want to pay the extra $5.

Rules say one player advances in preliminary rounds, but they actually let two advance. Players there said two advance was really their standard practice despite what the rules said. Be sure to ask dealer to be sure.

Although tables were set up to accomodate seven players, only had six at all 6:00 rounds, and some tables only had five at 7:00 round. Didn't watch the 8:00 round.

Also be sure to be in your seat, they start right on time. I saw a semifinalist disqualified because she showed up right after the dealer had dealt the cards and the rules say you are disqualified if you are not in your seat at start.

They also were having a bigger tournament on the weekend (July 10th) which I think was a $50 buyin with maybe a $50,000 prize pool. It wasn't advertised, may have been an invitational. Heard about it from a regular there. I did hear one player who said they were not a regular ask if it was still open. Dealer said they would get director to talk to them about it, so maybe you could get in without invite, not sure. I wasn't going to be there over the weekend, so didn't check on it myself.

Thanks ptaylor, I've updated the calendar listing with times and details.

  5. Thanks for the info. I noticed in the rules that they use 4-10 tables for the tournament. Do they just add them as they need them or do they have a standard number that they set up?

    Number of tables

I think they set up six or eight tables for the first round, but there may have been ten in the pit area the tournament was played in. I think all the semi final tables had six players per table and with six semifinal tables where only one advanced to the finals, that makes 36 players, so working backwards with two advancing from each table you need to run a total of 18 tables. The seventh player on the final table was a wild card drawing.
