A week or so ago, one of the popular video poker online message groups was buzzing over a posted photo showing a massive $240,000 jackpot. The game was a $100 3-coin FULL-PAY Deuces Wild game, later identified as being at Caesars. Now, that's very, very unusual already. Imagine my surprise today when I learn that the winner posted about it in his blog, and he also competed at the Palms UBT event. Wow I knew there was a reason I'm studying the whole video poker thing... Interesting story--thanks for posting this Ken. Clearly, it pays to keep looking at all the opportunities!
That would be 2...two $240,000 dollar wins ....He drew to a Club Royal and then the next day was dealt a Diamond Royal straight up....wow Why didnt I invent "WORD"...then I could be feeding VP machines at 300 a pull....and wondering what that little extra jeans pocket (pocket watch btw) was for...
Ahhhh, yes, video poker, now there's something I can chat about to some expert degree. And yes, I have photos of the $100 3-coin FPDW machine (with Royal), something that may not have been seen anywhere in the world for years. Keep in mind, although he did hit two $240K Royals, he didn't walk away with a $480K profit. He was getting reamed rather consistently before things started turning his way. Caeser's put those in to satisfy the wishes of a whale (the player in question). The base game is 100.76% with perfect play of a rather simple strategy. If you add in whatever cashback and comps are earned, 101% is a reasonable guesstimate for illustrative purposes. A pro player on cruise control can easily run 1,000 hands per hour @ $300 each. That's $300,000 per hour, times a 1% advantage. Damn fine money to be made if you've got the bankroll to withstand the swings. They had to lower the EV on them before the news hit the streets or they'd have been pounded mercilessly by pro teams, and they did so just before the player went home. We had dinner with Bob Dancer on the Wednesday night before the Palms UBT event. It's a safe bet that he didn't know about these two machines or we'd likely have had a broken dinner date!
Even more interesting, than video poker, about this guy is his 18 year old girlfriend and he was Bill Gates original assistant that when they worked on MS Word http://www.memecentral.com/rbrodie.htm
The Evil Empire apparently took a dim view of Mr. Brodie's recent good luck. Read his latest tale here: http://www.brodietech.com/liontales/2007/06/fall-of-roman-empire.html
Boy, Does That Suck! How did they grow into such a big, successful company practicing that kind of voodoo? :flame: Luck happens, just like s___. I hit a natural royal at the Aladdin last summer. Just one example.
And it was their own fault! Casinos are notorious for throwing out winners - all you counters know stories of lucky tourists who got trespassed just for having the audacity to win. Greektown got absolutely raped in the media a few years back for marching out winning video poker players right in front of everyone in the building (they've since changed management and atoned for that faux pas). Harrah's did this to themselves. They put in a 100.76% game, in $100 denom, and a guy with both the strategic knowledge and the deep pockets to exploit it came in as one of their invited Hi Rollers - and whacked it. Funny thing is, rumor has it that he was down almost $200K before Lady Luck smiled on him. I'll bet nobody was considering his ejection at that low point. That game is extremely rare in any other casino for more than quarters. Somebody screwed up and Brodie became the scapegoat.
