Wife and I are taking a weeklong trip to Vegas next month. On our list of things to do is to play in the tournament at the Golden Nugget the weekend of the 8th.

Not too much information here or at thier website on any details of the style of tourney they run (other than elimination).

Anyone wish to share past experinces (give advice) with the Nugget's BJ Tournaments?

Anyone else going to be in attendence from BJT.com?

    Thanks in Advance,
    Dan

    Golden Nugget tournament

The tournament on the 8th is actually a $50,000 tournament and not $100,000 as the calender says. The trouble with their 50,000 tournaments is that only one advances per round. They do have a rebuy and numerous wildcards into each advancing round including one into the finals. There will be over 200 people participating with most very tournament knowledgeable. They play the tournament with a double deck and standard Las Vegas double deck rules. NO DAS or surrender.
The reason this tournament is advertised as $100,000 is that they are having a $50,000 slot tournament simultaneously. The casino will be packed. I attend most of their tournaments, but will miss this one because I don't like traveling that far for just a single advancing tournament.

    Golden Nugget

I played Golden Nugget earlier this month -

Saturday was for buy-in rounds - six per table - one advance - Sunday they started with rebuy rounds - I had five players at my rebuy table - one advance - the second round table I played at had 6 players - one advance - then my semi-final table had only four players - one advance - I got a $100 play until you lose promo chip for making it to the semi-final - those who made it to the final table chopped for $8,320 each -

Early rounds were 20 hands - if they had played the final table - it would have been 30 hands - they do a chip count before the final hand -

This was a pretty nice tourney - but - you have to win three tables in a row to make the final - and there were a number of pretty good players there - but - with only 4 players in the semi-final - that improves the odds somewhat (not enough in my case) -

With the win three rounds to make the money format - I wouldn't travel just to play this tourney - but - if you are in Vegas anyway - definitely give it a shot -

one recommendation - avoid the Golden Nugget coffee shop - not very good food - the absolute worst hash browns I have ever not eaten -

also cheaper places to stay downtown than GN - they may be the nicest hotel downtown - but - they are not that nice - kind of low-end strip nice -

    Heading Out This Evening

Wife and I will be heading out this evening to LV and will be playing in this tourney this weekend. This will be a "warm up" for St. Ignace next month. :D

I will probably be wearing a John Deere green cap (I had two) so if anyone from here is in attendance, say hi and wish us luck!

Best of Luck to you Dan.

In the past $50K tourney at GN the wildcard drawings on Sunday are REALLY worth attending.

The last time I was there it seemed like 50% of the names drawn were no shows.

The GN runs a very well oiled tourney machine. The ONLY thing I don't like is the 1 per table advance rule. The last time there I had 1 person on each table go all in first hand (max bet) and win. With a 2,000 max bet and no surrender it makes catching the leader difficult.

However the GN is first rate with their registration, their playing area and nice dealers. A definately recommendation from me - Good Luck and great cards.

    John Deere Green!

    Hey Dan Mayo,

Best of luck to you and your wife at the GN (you're both playing, right?). Will hopefully see you two at St. Ignace next month.

    Yes Both

    Billy C,

Yes we will both be playing. We will also be traveling around playing a few of the weekly mini's too. :)

Next month it looks like she will not make it to St. Ignace but I'm coming up with a few of other people. (at least that's the current plan) Hope to see you guys there too.

    Sharks wern't too bad!

We had a great time in Vegas this past week and enjoyed meeting a few fellow members. (I guess the John Deere Green hat stood out!)

I agree with a few of the other poster's here that it is tough to go just for a single advancing tourney, but since we were going anyway we gave it a shot.

I felt I played as good as anyone at the table but if you don't get the cards, what's one to do. I did not make it off the first table but did use up all my chips trying. (I did have a shot by doubling down on my 2K bet on hand 16 of 20, I had a hard 14 and caught a 7 but the dealer ended up getting a 21 on her hard 13 and we pushed. My wife made it past the first round by winning her table but got knocked out in the second round.

Wild card draws were aplenty though on Sunday. They drew 20 for the second round, 11 for the 3rd round and 1 for the final table. I again did not have much luck and was not drawn. My wife though, after getting knocked out of the second round had her name drawn into the third round. But this is where her luck ran out and she did not advance to the final table.

We will schedule our next trip and try to play this one again.

    Good Cards,
    Dan

    Cap Saved You

    DanMayo,
No doubt, the GREEN cap saved you! Had it been IH red the sharks would have devoured you.
    See you next month.
