During the last several months, this site has witnessed what seems to be an explosion in the quantity of discussions relating to how BJ tournaments can/should be changed. Continued exchange of ideas are needed if BJ tournaments are to evolve from their present status. THE PROBLEM: All of these discussions are spread over unrelated threads because they evolved from other discussions. It would be a Herculean task for a member to search through the various threads on this site to gain a grasp of the many ideas presented. Indeed, many good ideas get buried. MY RECOMMENDATION I would like to see a major category created on this site that would be called something like "IDEAS FOR IMPROVING BLACKJACK TOURNAMENTS". This would allow each idea to be discussed in its own thread and all threads relating to changes/improvements would be in one central location making discussion and research so much easier and more productive. A CALL FOR OTHER VOICES This idea is just my thought. I would like other members to voice their opinions on this subject of a separate thread devoted to discussing changes to TBJ. And of course, I would look forward to Ken Smith's thoughts on this suggestion. Ken has done so much to advance tournament play through this site which includes continuing upgrades and I hope we - meaning all members - can talk Ken into making this one more enhancement.
Here we are. I moved a few of the recent threads in here. If you find other threads that should be moved, either post here or PM me the URL.
Thanks for the thread, Ken. I have to say that when I just logged on and didn't see this thread in the "announcement" category my first thought was that it got blasted and I'm in the dog house. Speaking of blasted, I hope all members will make use of this category so it survives the ax.
Good Idea This thread looks like a good idea that might improve the tournament scene in time. As far as B&M based live tournaments go, it would be nice to have a "universal" format at all venues, but this is highly unlikely because of the different house rules at each place. As we know, the host places usually use most of their regular house rules in their tournaments and house rules are probably never the same from one place to another. Available "surrender" would be just one example. Now if we're talking strictly "funny money" tourneys, maybe the casinos would allow a standard format. My guess is there's no chance they would for "live money" tournaments. Can't think of ANY live money events still in existence so this could have possibilities. One problem I could envision with a deviation from house rules, is that it would increase dealer mistakes. Billy C
I love live money events... I thought "LIVE" money tournaments were the best, but to my surprise lots more players prefer the "No Cash Value" (NCV) events. I found this out about 5 years ago while taking surveys at the Hilton's Million Dollar Tournament. The results were about 2/3 in favor of the NCV events, and with the current attendance for resent events, I think we need to accommodate as many players as possible...LOL
