British Blackjack Tournaments are few and far between so you if you have an opportunity to play you take it. Grosvenor Casinos put on a North West England Blackjack Tournament with a final prize of £10.000. London Colin and I met up at their Blackpool Casino for the qualifying rounds and we have both made it through to the finals. We both play this Sunday at the Didsbury Casino near Manchester England. Wish us both good luck. Andy
Thanks for the good wishes, everyone. Alas, neither of us made it into the money. Unbelievably, the random drawing for the first-round table and seat allocations put us not only at the same table, but in adjacent seats. I scraped through, into the semi-final, but Andy wasn't so lucky. The semi was a huge table, with 4 advancing from 9. Naturally, I finished in 5th. This event was the same format as the previous London ones (Grosvenor Casinos). There was another one going on at the same time in Yorkshire, so with any luck these should be springing up from time to time around the country. (We were told this particular one is going to be an annual event.)
Sorry to hear about the tough luck, but glad to hear that you'll be getting more chances at it in the future.
My interest about Blackjack Tournaments has been rekindled When that American Port Security legislation went through it killed off the European Internet players. Like many I lost touch with my American friends that I played with on the net, and with no games to play I gradually lost interest. I would love to know what the position is now because I thought the American Government would just tax it and everyone would be back on as normal. Well, as Colin has said we both got knocked out in the finals but it was good fun to meet up and get a live game at last. The good thing is that Grosnevor Casinos made money and a lot of interest on this so they are going to run it again. Now I am motivated again and have dusted off all my BJ books ready for the next tourney. Andy 956
Well, the situation has not improved much for the US and online gambling, especially tournaments. New Jersey and Delaware are the only US states so far that have legalized online casino gambling. Nevada has approved online poker only. (I have to plug my sites for those. NJ Online Casinos, DE Online Casinos, NV Online Casinos.) There continue to be rumblings in other states. At the moment most interest is around Pennsylvania and California. Unfortunately, with this very slow state by state process, there is no way a niche product like online blackjack tournaments can draw enough players to work yet. I hope the UK situation continues to improve. Enjoy the events over there, and I look forward to hearing more exploits of you and Colin.
As far as the blackjack tournament scene in the UK is concerned it appears to be completely and utterly dead. Which is a great shame....
