Kiowa Casino in Oklahoma (on the Texas border) announced tonight that they are going to have a 10k tourney with a $25 buy-in on Sept 10.

That's all the details they gave....

They have been having a Monday night tournament with a $20 buy-in, with one rebuy, with a $3000 payout.

A Friday tournament with a $3000 payout that is free.

    Very interesting....

    I'll check it out

I went up there a couple of months back and was very impressed with the casino. I believe it had only been open for less then a month at the time.

Only problem I saw was no hotel on property, other then that everything was really nice.

    Little more info...

From what I was told about the September 10th $10,000 event, it will start at 6:00 p.m. and the entry fee is $25.00. It will be the same as their normal Monday BJ tournament, only once a month they will offer $10,000 instead of $3,000 for the prize pool.

The event will be single elimination, no re-buys offered.

If you make the final table on any of these Monday tournaments you qualify for another tournament in December, with first prize of round trip air, hotel, spending cash (amount unknown), and two tickets to the "Pro Bowl" in Hawaii, (about a $15,000 value.)

A very nice deal for the locals for sure. I hear they are getting about 75 players weekly for both there Monday and Friday events.

No word on the rules, however I believe the format is standard elimination with no early knockouts, or it was last time I was up there.

    Different format?

First let me say the Kiowa Casino is very nice and the staff are very friendly. However I have to say I wasn't impressed with the format they used the other night.

It was a EBJ style format (which is fine), but with some strange modifcations. They had a $25 entry and played 7 players per table, 21 hands with elimination hands on 14 and 21. It was possible for 5 players to advance from each table and since you had to finish the entire 21 hands possible that no one advanced from a table.

Both a friend of mine and I found out just how different the format was. I was in 3rd place with 4 players left on hand 21 (last hand). I had over a max. $2,500 lead on BR4 and was on the button, so my bet was the min. $100 so BR4 could catch me with an all in DD.

As it happens I caught a BJ and BR4 ended up DD on a hard 13 vs. dealers 5. When the dealer pulled a 4 card 20 and BR4 had caught a 5 for 18 they were eliminated and the 3 of us all advanced to the next round...WRONG!

Seems we were told incorrectly how their elimination hands worked, it doesn't matter that a player or players bust out on one of the elimination hands, they still eliminated the lowest chip total anyway...WOW, I was sick, and the same thing happened to my friend on teh next table.

It got better, we ended up reentering for another $25 and while we were waiting for our session to start several players were talking about the format and happen to mention that the chips carried over from round to round, WOW, another small rule they forgot to mention to us.

They had a total of 9 tables for Round 1, sessions 1, 2, & 3, with 7 players at each table. They called Round 2 the semifinals, but they had 9 tables of 7 in that round and I figured they were just taking the top 7 highest chip counts for the final table...WRONG again.

The Finals as they called it had 3 tables of 7 players, they played down to 14 and then stopped and re-drew for new tables and seats and started over again after they eliminated 7 more players. Then they drew for seats and played the final table.

It was blackjack with a cross of EBJ and poker format.

The tournament started at 6:00 p.m. (they started registraion at 5:00 p.m.) and when I finally got beat out it was 12:00 midnight and they were just starting the final two tables. I figure they finished around 2:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Now they did pay the top 14 players, however 8th - 14th places had to wait until the entire tournament was over to get paid.

Another negitive is they don't have a hotel on site, closest is about 5 - 10 minutes away in Texas.

Closest airports are regional (Wichita Falls, TX or Lawton, OK). The casino is about 2:30 from D/FW airport or 2:45 from Love field (the bigger airports).

Now would I go back up there and play another tournament there, not with that format, but with another style format, I'd go back up again for the right price pool.

Again the Casino it's self and the staff were great.

Last nights $20 buy-in and $20 rebuy at Kiowa. My wife Erika with $20 buy-in no rebuy made it to first place $1000. Proud of her. The tournament was the same as monthly with 14th and 21st hand eliminations. Except this time there was 8 players split 4 each at two tables for a final table. The first person who goes out on or before the 14th hand is 8th place and gets nothing. It played thru to the 21st hand and the final chip counts decided 1st - 7th. Now she advances to the Dec 17 tournament. The monthly tournaments are going to continue. The players pool $697000.

    Thank you

My wife Erika says thank you too all. She had to fight from behind at her first, second, and final tables. I was holding my breath quite a few times. I think I was more nervous than Erika. She has made it to a final table and into the money before, but first first place and that made her so happy.

The Kiowa is still having its monthly $10000 tournament. Just had it again Nov 5. They said they would be doing this the first Monday of each month. Just last night I played their football Sunday. For every $100 buy in at a table, BJ, two aces, or straight or better on 3-card you get a ticket for the barrel. For every touchdown three names are drawn and payed $100 if you are playing at a table. If the person isn't there they draw another ticket. I got drawn twice. I heard one guy was drawn 11 times in one night. The recent big news there is about a guy that got on a lucky streak. In a week he won $360000. The casino stopped him from playing any more and told him he wasn't welcomed back. The players pool there is still over $500000.

My wife did it again for her second try at the Monday $3000 tournament. She finished third for $500. The monthly $10000 tournament is Dec 3 and another one on Dec 10.

    Time

If we had more time we would be on the cruise. Work has been keeping me close to home. We wanted to go to Tulsa, but I had no time off. But, that is ok, because we got the upcoming $1mil tournament and that is the final table we want to make together. We'll try Kiowa again Dec 10 for the next $10000 tournament.

They still have their Friday tournament. New BJ tournaments will start in Jan. They're not sure what the next tournaments will be like. Wanting to do a variety of formats, buy ins, and prizes.
