This weekend Marichal won the UBT final event at the Ironhorse casino in Everett, WA. The win was good for an all expense trip to the Palms UBT event that is happening a few weeks from now. The trip also included the entry fee into the Palms event. I believe he took a cash alternative instead. Congrats Marichal on a great win. To qualify for the final event this weekend it was a little different than the norm. Over the last appoximate 3 months you received points for playing in Ironhorse's blackjack tournaments that occur about 3-4 times a week. About a week ago they ended the scoring and the top 64 players qualified to play this past weekend. Marichal can give a better breakdown on the numbers here but appoximately the top 20 of the 64 players started with $3000 in tournament chips. The next 20 started with $2000 in tournament chips and the rest started with $1000. Marichal and Leha (who also qualified) started with the $2000. I wasn't there so Marichal or Leha can give more details later on their play. It should also be noted that Ironhorse had the same style tournament at their Auburn, WA location. Again, nicely done Marichal.

I qualified #26 in that event having a late start, like usual the house shuffle and those surrendering their $10 bets killed me *sigh*... winning 9 hands of the 41 dealt to me I couldn't get past the quarters... marichal can attest to the difficulty catching cards there, its not really the shoe to blame its the other players killing themselves and everyone else with $10 surrenders, if its not that when the shoe is rich and the dealer shows bust, anyone that can will split 3 or 4 ways as to insure all the bust cards are drained.. *sigh again* nice pair of shoes for the dubya marichal...
Update Storm and I just finished playing a small tournament at Hawks Prairie Casino in Lacey with Marichal and Leha. Marichal let me know that the top 5 players at each Ironhorse Casino won the all expense paid trip to the Palms to play in a few weeks. That's 10 total trips between the 2 casinos. WOW. At the Everett Ironhorse all five top finishers took the cash alternative instead of the trip to the Palms. WOW Again. I don't know if the top five finishers from the Auburn Ironhorse took the trip or cash alternative.
the "horse" may have misrepresented the entire event, advertisement stated you could win a seat in the "million dollar UBT tourney"... I could have taken the 2k invested and put it towards satellites and caught better cards....
thanks guys for your good wishes. means a great deal from great players like this group represents. iron horse ran a good tourney that day. sort of surprised that no one in the top five (5 made it to the palms) did not choose to take the trip. i did not, because i will be in barona, to take my chances there. so i would agree with what twisted stated, at least for my situation. i am just haapy that a small casino took the time to put on a tourney such as this. they will get better with their promoting, and the customers will understand a liitle more about the blackjack tourney world. now must go in and play my second tourney for the day, after little old ladies and men nailed me in the semis this afternoon. thanks once again. see some of you at barona.
