Numbers – Probability – Playing the odds

I thought I’d throw out some of the statistics that I’ve heard on this issue. In 2003, your odds of dying from an injury were 1 in 1,755.

Your odds of dying from a motor vehicle accident were 1 in 6,050.

Your odds of dying from a handgun incident were 1 in 24,400 while your odds of dying from a drug overdose were 1 in 31,508

In case you ever wondered what the odds of dying from a poisonous snake bite are, here’s the website:

    http://www.nsc.org/lrs/statinfo/odds.htm

You see odds are good for large groups and they tend to give us a “big picture” outlook. So when something happens to us and we mention it to others sometimes we get sympathy, sometimes we get annoyance, mostly we just get blank stares.

When you play a game, like TBJ a certain way/style/fashion and then notice that it’s not working any longer you have a couple of choices:

    1. Continue with your style – blame variance problems and just “wait it out”
    2. Analyze what has changed to produce such a different result

So you go back and review your playing habits/style. You see that you are still doing an aggressive progression game that should be working. I mean after all you’ve based this style of play upon Stanford Wong’s CTS book. You wait until you lose a hand, then bet 1/7, 1/3 and finally all-in. According to the grandfather of TBJ you've got an 86% of winning one of these bet...

Finally it dawns on when you realize that the reason that your aggressive progression style of play is not having the same results. Why?

    More Reasons to Boycott Bet21.com

    1. False Advertising – see the deposit bonus threads.

    2. Poor Customer Service – I personally have had many issues with them – see Bet21.com customer service threads

    3. Broken Promises I – Yes, this is one that I had forgotten about. Sometime in October 2006 Bet21.com was running a 1,000 ‘guarenteed’ tournament for the low buy-in price of only 1.10. Suddenly they stopped – no reason given just kaput! See this thread: http://www.blackjacktournaments.com/bb/showthread.php?t=2429&highlight=deposit+bonus

    4. Broken Promises II – You remember the St. Kitts qualifiers. You could win multiple entries but they were paid with tournament dollars only usable at the poker tables. So you paid with cash, played BJ and win poker only credits – can someone say bait and switch. See this thread: http://www.blackjacktournaments.com/bb/showthread.php?p=18282&highlight=deposit+bonus#post18282

    5. Broken Promises III – November 8, 2006. Bet21.com was to sponsor 1,000,000 in freerolls to individuals that support UBT. WOW! With the $50,000 in St. Kitts that only leaves 9,950,000 dollars left in freerolls. NOT. Don’t remember that one either? See this thread: http://www.blackjacktournaments.com/bb/showthread.php?t=2733&page=3&highlight=deposit+bonus

    6. Broken Promises IV – November 18, 2006 AGAIN! Bet21.com announces a 100,000 BJ tournament for December 9, 2006. There was chat, buzz, excitement then POOF! It gets replaced by a HORSE POKER tournament. Don’t remember that either? See this thread: http://www.blackjacktournaments.com/bb/showthread.php?t=2857&highlight=horse

This list continues and I HOPE I’ve made my point.

Many thanks to Hollywood Dave for reminding me about short-term memory. As you can see I’ve made an actual list and have hard copies so that I won’t forget how certain companies that claim to be our “friends” just don’t give a rats a--!

    good post

kaminari - I posted contact info on this site for the gaming commission months ago - anyone with documentation that the UB/Bet21 game is unfair can contact that gaming commission and submit their evidence to them - they have held hearings on their licensed sites in the past - including investigating failure to pay out promised moneys, etc. - they also do regular monitoring of the software and RNGs used by the sites - don't know how really good they are - but they are there

it is one thing to rant about the games being 'unfair' and 'rigged', another to have actual evidence to submit to a regulatory authority
