Well, felix215 (pat of the Florida contingent) made it out to the Venetian for the tournament. I finally met some other Elimination Blackjack players.

Congratulations - bjmace, toonces, FGK42 and especially Mucker.

Thanks for your encouragement - sweetteabird, tedinnaples

Enjoyed meeting Joe Pane, Krazy Kanuck and anyone else I left off the list.

I had the Poker Star table in the 1st round:

Antonio Esfandari, Jennifer Tilly, Devil Fish Ulliot and Robert Williamson.

Although I was saddened by my own poor showing, I enjoyed meeting everyone.

Hope to see you at another one.

  2. You certainly wound up on a table with a lot of name recognition. Now that you have gotten your feet wet, it has to be easier the next time. Any tips for someone about to make their first live try. (not so much playing as just information you only get by being there) I am going out to LV in two weeks and plan to play one of these events at the Venetian.

    Some suggestions

    1. Know the rules ahead of time. They are different from Online Elimination Blackjack in at least two ways:
    a. The secret bet allows you to make a 0 bet.
    b. If you surrender with the secret bet out, a card is dealt. This makes it tougher for the other players to guess that you surrendered.
    2. Think about or even practice estimating other players' chip stacks ahead of time. Under pressure its easy to make a critical mistake. There are less counts live.
    3. Double check that you are out. One poster that made final Venetian table thought he had been eliminated in an earlier round and almost walked away. (I'll give him a beak and won't name him :)
    4. Other?

    Addendum

Know the rules - make sure you know how many players advance to the next round :D

    Excellent point and Observation

In this past Casino Player felix215, there is an article that explains every type of tournament format there is. It really explains what is elimination, standard, accumulation, etc....Please pick up this copy of Casino Player everyone and it will explain what you should look for and the type of tournaments that are offered from various casino's throughout the world people. Excellent point, just to reiterate felix215. Many people show up to tournaments confused about why didn't they advance. Yet, when they look at the rules later they slap themselves silly because they didn't read the rules. Peace.....
