Never played a tourney before...

I got invited to play in a BJ tournament less than a week from now, but I have no idea how to play a tourney. I read somewhere that you should play very conservatively at the start and then really go for it at the end. Other than that, I'm clueless. I use Hi/low, but have also read that counting doesn't help at all in tourneys.

What can I do to prepare myself taking into consideration, that I'll only have a couple of hours to read something online this weekend. What should I read and where can I find it?

    Thanks for your help.

    Wong it up

Pick up Stanford Wong's Casino Tournament Strategy.

(See all these potential customers waiting for you guys to go to press Dave and Ken) :joker:

Kenny Einiger also has a book I'm aware of. I haven't had a chance to read it, but if you want to read from someone who's had some results, he's got that on his resume.

    It's right here

In case you haven't spotted it, there is a link called 'Strategy Articles', top-left on this very site. It includes words of wisdom from our very own Ken Smith. :)

Wow, that's awesome. In hindsight, is there anything you wish you would have known that first time?

Also, can anyone direct me to a site where I could practice for with a small amount of money?

If you've only got a weekend then DON'T go to global-player.com - need a real money account and not enough players - too slow and they will require a fingerprint and voice analysis to get your money back

Blackjack21.com - good site but no players

playubt.com - free BUT don't do it. You'll pick up REALLY bad habits for a live $ game. Do this site AFTER your live $ game

Bet21.com - free and real $ games. Go to a real $ tourney and click on as an observer. Ask questions -this is the most realistic and your best bet!

Also READ, READ and then re-read.

Finally - keep a records of hands and when U come home post your questions here - there are excellent resources and great BJ players who are very friendly and willing to help.

You all come back now - hear!

A wildcat betting strategy will not work when you play a qualifier at playUBT. If you are new to tourneys then fgk42 is right, you would be in danger of picking up bad habits, but they would be soon knocked out of you when the play gets serious! I have actually found the S&Gs quite informative; as I've said before they make for an interesting TBJ laboratory.

To be honest with you, aside from what has been said about their account verification process, Global is where you should play. You will meet and play with the best players and you will learn ALOT. And I'm not sure you need a real money acount to play in their freerolls.

    Cheers

    Glad I found this site

    Hey Now...

DAMN! glad I found this site. I've got a seat in the Vegoose/Stubhut! Charity Tourney Halloween weekend in Vegas and I've played maybe 10 hours of BJ in a casino total. LOL.

    Great info here, thanks!

I agree with Reachy about Global-Player. You can watch tournaments by logging on as a guest. Join the lobby chat and ask questions.
