For next years GSN WSOB, I would love to see a set tournament format used by all the casinos.

I believe the Tulsa Cherokee casino had a good format, it just needed to be fine tuned.

How does this sound for qualifiers next year:

Start an 18 week qualifying tournament with the finals on week 19. Host 2 tournaments weekly, both on the weekends so it will draw in the most players. This will also be more of a draw for out of town players.

Charge a $50 entry with $50 re-buys (if avilable), maximum number of players, 72 per event (including re-buys)

Six tables of 6 players, top 2 advance from each table through the semifinals.

The finals would have 36 players (6 tables, 6 players each). Still 2 advance each round until the finals and the winner gets the WSOB seat.

For the weekly events, everything over $2,800 would go out as prize money (this would help recover the casino's original $50,000 investment).

The entry fees would be low enough to bring in new players, and the re-buy offer would help bring in enough money for the events that are not sold out.

At $50 entries, there would be no reason for players not to play. Plus offering multiple events during a trip from out of town and advancing 2 from each tournament to the championship, each tournament should bring in enough to fill up their events on a weekly basis.

This is just a thought, but I think it would work, and let's face it, several casinos needed help on their events this year. They really do need a set format to help them out. Some of this year's qualifying tournaments had really low turnouts.

I'll even post a poll (I know how much everyone loves them...LOL). Just check everything that would make you go to one of the qualifiers.

  2. Sounds Good.

Question? Are you allowed only one seat in week 19 or if you would happen to win weeks 7 & 10, would this give you two seats? I like the concept. Cherokee would be the one I would play in, also would like to see Tunica get a seat. Would travel there to play too.

    Great Ideas

I would strongly recommend getting rid of the accumulation format for all Qualifiers.

    Yes Capt, but...

Yes Capt. you could win more than one seat for the championship finals, but only for different days.

Example: you could win on Friday and then for Sunday, but for the same night - the money yes, but not the seat.

I did like what Cherokee did this year, that is if you played and won on the same night that that seat would just be gone and there would be one less player in that night's championship. They didn't slide back to the 3rd or 4th place finisher on the weekly events.

Sidekick, I agree that getting away from the accumulation format is why I suggested a set format for all the casinos. I feel it would not only be better for the players, but help out the casinos (which it seems like some of them needed help this year).

Don't get me wrong, I think it was Great that the casinos paid $50,000 to host the WSOB qualifiers for us, but I feel that they need to put on the best possible tournament so that they may recover their investment or they won't be offering us these qualifiers for long.

    The numbers don't compute

TX, I don’t see how your numbers work. How do you get six tables of 6 players from 72 entries unless an "event" is both weekly tournaments?

If so, then each tournament starts with only 36 players. This gives you 12 players advancing to a semi-final round which would be 2 tables of 6 players. The final would then be 4 players.

This would be OK for the grand finale playing for the WSOB seat but a qualifying tournament of only 36 players with a $50 entry seems insufficient.

The way I figure it if you want to maintain 6 players per table with two advancing in every round you must start with 54 players for a 3-round tournament and 162 players for a 4-round tournament. Anything in between would require a lesser number of players/table and/or advancing players and/or wild cards (which you HATE. ).

    Two first round sessions

Two sessions of 36 players each.

    Now I see

OK that clears it up. 12 tables in round 1 gives 24 players advancing to a quarter-final where you have 4 tables of 6 players. Two advancing leads to a semi-final round with 2 tables of 4 resulting in a 4-player final table.

Nice format. Advancing brings an additional reward of fewer players per table in the last two rounds. Sounds like a winner to me :1st:

More Than One Seat To WSOB

They could use the same format TX described below to offer 2 or even 3 seats, if that's how many a casino bought. If a store had three seats they could alter the format a little so the final table has six players, with three WSOB seat winners. Either that or if we don't like the three winner table the 36 finalists could be divided into three 12-player brackets and run it like three 12-player mini tournaments.

    With 3 seat they could....

Still use the same format, except take the top 3 players from each of the two weekly events and of course increase the entry fee/re-buys to about $75 each to make up the difference.
