Looks like the Pearl River Resort old Tuesday weekly has been replaced with a bigger Friday night event. Nice!

  3. Except for people who have to announce football games on Friday nights for the next 3 months.:p Still, I am glad they decided to continue to have weekly tournaments.

    2009?

    12/19/08
    No tournament Friday 12/26/08.
Asked if tournament would take place as we enter 2009 and none of the chiefs could answer.
CALL first for tourn. status before you go if you want to play this tournament in 09'....
I travel 3.5 hours to play this tournament ..... just trying to save someone a trip.

Hope they continue it in 2009

This is one of the best run local tournaments and can be a great overlay since the prize pool of $10,000 is guaranteed. They do advertise their tournaments on their website, so watch in January to see if it is still there. Jim is right though, you might want to verify that nothing has changed before making a long trip. They have changed the small Friday night tourney into a larger invitation only occasionally, but usually when that happens someone here will post the note that it is going to be an invitational only instead. I don't know how amenable they are to offering entries to players who don't play there except on tournament nights or to comping the same players with rooms. With the economy being bad, the casino hasn't been as crowded and the tournaments haven't been full. As a result their listed room rates for Friday nights at the casino has been under $100. The best deal I have found is staying at the Hilton Garden Inn just up the street for $99 or using your Hilton points for a free room. The rooms there are nicer than the casino and the points required (10,000) is the lowest tier for any Hilton brand hotel.

I got lucky and drew the wildcard spot to the final table this past Friday, and came within a card of getting the first place prize of $5,000, but settled for $1000 and 4th place instead by holding back a $2.50 chip which I couldn't get in play on the final hand.

The competition is always tough since only one advances per table each round, but they always have multiple wildcards to the semifinal round and one wildcard to the final table.

Did they have the blackjack tournament on 1/2/09 @ the Golden Moon? I called and could not get a solid yes or no. If anyone has info please post.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Not sure

I don't know about last Friday, but it is shown as continuing into 2009 on their website. As far as I know they have always had one, but some have been changed to invitation only with a larger prize pool without any advance notice.

Just read in the local (MOBILE AL.) Armadilla Delta Daily, that the Golden Moon will only be open on Fri.-Sun until further notice. Seems as if the tumultous economy combined with over zealous construction, has negatively influenced the cash flow for the Choctaw Tribe. The closing has brought about numerous non-tribal lay-offs.

Hope the Friday tournament will not be affected. Silver Star will remain open as usual.

    Still On

FWIW, I just talked to the table games manager who told me the Friday weekly would be held today, and there were no plans to cancel it in the forseeable future. I would still call before traveling to be sure.

Just a heads-up.....Not many players last night or the week before at this tournament. Tournament floor person (Tracy) confirms prior post as to no intent to cancel. I wonder how long casino will offer tourn. w/ low attendance? They did have a large cash drawing this weekend totaling $75K.
One of the vehicles that was up on a .05 cent slot carrousel was removed to the front lobby and will be given away at the end of the month. One entry per person for a Black Mercedes C300. Ken should have a good shot at #2 C300:eek: Pretty strong promos for a casino cutting back and having low attendance. Glad to still have a all cash tourn. to play though.....
