The general rule by BJT members is to stay away from religion and politics when posting on this site. Having said that, I think that the two above candidates appear to be both decent guys and it is great to have that choice when voting. The radio and television coverage in Britain has been quite big and I would like to have a decent bet on who will be the next president of the USA. Obama’s million’s dollar infomercial went down like a lead balloon over here so I am wondering if it is worth a punt on McCain. So regardless of your political preferences who do you think will win the next American election? I am just asking advice from over the pond and where the smart money is being placed when betting on Obama and McCain. Andy
Touchy, touchy! Like you, Andy, I don't vote November 4 because I'm Canadian. But like you, and the whole planet, I follow this election closely. The results will impact all of us. I agree with you : they're both decent fellows. My bet, though, is a landslide for Obama, mainly because he will get his vote out more than McCain. IMO, the American people are looking for a meaningful change of direction and, on issues, the Democrats are energized as never before since the Kennedy era. It seems to me that a large number of Republican leaning people feel uninspired by their ticket and won't even bother to vote or have the patience the wait hours in line in a losing cause.
Thanks! It's nice to know that the rest of the world has such interest in our election. It is kind of a polarizing time in our country (my sister and I aren't speaking at present) but we'll be OK in a week or so! Billy C
New Faces, Old Ideas The two were running neck and neck until the markets crashed less than three months before the election. This was bound to seal the deal for any Democrat who happened to be running for President. Obama got dealt a BJ, McCain a 16.
My opinion Neither candidate will make needed, meaningful changes since they are both controlled by the same special interests....and they will sell out the Constituition and the citizens of the U.S. to appease those special interests. I will vote 3rd party. The Democrats fooled me two years ago when they took over the House and Senate and then did nothing of what they had promised. I will not be fooled again. CP
The election I can not believe one of the creeps will be the leader of the free world!!! They are NOT both decent guys by any means. Especially Obama with all the left wing loons in his camp... Voting is something you do if you believe in the system. I am a capitalist and do not believe in our current socialistic system. When your choice is a broken leg or a broken arm. I choose NEITHER. I will adjust my life to what ever one gets elected. I would rather play blackjack. Based on the vast majority of the "Uninformed", Obama looks like a shoe in. The American public usually does the wrong voting thing, kind of like the casual blackjack player. Stands on 16 when the dealer shows an Ace, but hits on 16 when the dealer shows a 5. Fortunately for me...I will will be playing at Jerry's Nugget on election day. Hopefully I will not take McCains path of loosing... I would rather be lucky than good...but both is BETTER!!!
I have always picked the winner! I HAVE ALWAYS PICKED THE WINNER FOR PRESIDENT SINCE I WAS 18 YRS OLD. NEVER MISSED. IT'S VERY EASY, JUST FILL OUT YOUR ABSENTEE BALLOT ON THE DAY FOLLOWING THE ELECTION AND SEND IT IN. WE CAN ALL SAY WE PICKED THE RIGHT GUY.
I wouldn't go that far. I'd say Obama has a 20, with a dealer face showing. McCain may have a 16, and as problematic as that is, he is about to take a card...
Sharing! Being the wealth sharer that he is, Obama trades hands with McCain. "THE PRESS" is the dealer though so you know how it plays out. Obama draws a five and the dealer flips another ten. The win, coupled with McCain's push gives victory to Obama. Billy C
Chip Palming With all the voter fraud and suppression out there, maybe the prize will go to the slickest chip palmer!
My Bet At the time of writing Barack is the favourite over here at 1/20 and John is trailing at 8/1. I can’t see any value in betting on the main candidates so have made a change. My money has gone on the Democratic Party to win the state of Indiana (I placed the bet last night and could only get even money). I am sure that you will all wish me luck. Andy
