Wanda and I were invited to play in a free slot tournament last week-end.It was a team format with the top three teams earning 3000, 1250, and 500 respectively. There were 16 teams and 10 players per team.
I didn't know the format prior to arriving at the casino but was informed that Wanda (my spouse) and I could play on different teams if we so desired.I hastily made the decision that we would play on different teams.
Let me make clear my initial sentence in this thread-each player on the winning teams will receive 3000, 1250, and 500.
After the registration I began to think if playing on two separate teams was the right decision. The 6 grand that we could win by placing first weighted my thought process. I also knew that we had a better chance of a smaller win by playing seperately.
My question-would you and your partner select the same or different teams and why?

Different teams. The Expected Value is the same regardless, but the variance is lower with two teams than with one.

    thanks

Thanks Ken, I did make th proper decision, but the 6000 grand prize made me do some serious doubting of my initial decision. No prize anyhow, Wanda's team finished 4th and my team was near the bottom.

I played one of these a while back with you two, and we did a little better then. :D

    Fun format.
